A lot to unpack in that last episode.

That's funny that they wrote Shun out of the show. Didn't they say he went to America for three months? I thought it had been six months in the anime's time since this second half of the show started.

The first half of the show had more feeling over its resolution in comparison to this latter half, especially when you just dump all the motivation for why things are happening in the last episode. Sure, maybe you feel a little for it, but it's so much less impactful.

I wanted to see [the email program] Ai be full of emails from Ai's father over time, like how a certain show's tenth episode did it.

This latter half of the show really suffered from pacing issues. The plot picked up in the last, what, 8 episodes? So a good portion of the previous 18 episodes beforehand really don't accomplish a lot, especially when that's already been done in the first half. There are a few select standout episodes that I feel could be condensed into a shorter latter half and one could still watch it just fine.

The soundtrack is not totally memorable but they did their job. One new addition in this latter half I really liked was アイのテーマ (Ai's Theme). I'm still gushing and will continue to do so over Eien to Iu Basho and Tori ni Naru Toki though.

The art got a little messed up at times (in a 52 episode show, what can you do?), but most of the time, it was a pleasure to see. I really enjoyed the myriad of expressed emotions from characters, from funny to serious. I lost count of how many transformations there were, but you know they're damn beautiful. (I won't lie, I did skip the ones that we've seen before in previous episodes. I wonder just how much time those took up in total?)

However, the visuals and sound do not carry the show alone, and the cast isn't too well-rounded. I ended up liking Yui the most (who doesn't?), followed by Ai (not the email program, but the human). A lot of the characters suffer from being one-dimensional.

Honestly? I wouldn't recommend the show. My frustrations lie with the story pacing and the sheer amount of filler - the show suffers and becomes forgettable due to all of that.

But I do not regret watching it. Sure love my idealist children's programming. I'll miss Yui and friends. :)
