I think the implication is supposed to be she wants to hold him as close as possible . But if author does confirm the incestous part of her feelings it's probably came about due to loosing him.
I think the ex husband might come back as a backup but i think she was serious in divorcing his ass. After all he thought their son was fine and look what happened

I question if the mom gave her husband, who works for the police, the evidence about bullying. If the dad is cold person, we can assume that he told his wife that  "it is impossible to incriminate those kids because they are underage." From the looks in the father's eyes, he possibly doesn't care about his son, caring too much about work, or maybe this is one of those cases where the father is jealous of the son for having too much of the wife's affection. 

Anyway, since the principal  was bribed, via sex, we can assume the school staff is likely corrupt, potentially being aware of the bullying but chooses not to stop things as the bullies' families "donated" a lot.

Actually he was griefing over his dead son so that is not the case. It is really creepy with the way she made that shrine.
