So many of you are worried about it being rushed because of only 2 movies and being called "final"... i really don't know why.

Let's assume each movie will be about 100 minutes long (pretty standard for anime movies), that would be 200 minutes of movies. remove the usual opening, ending, maybe extra credits and other fluff, which say will accumulate to 10 minutes per movie, we still got 180 minutes of content.

Now we compare this to an usual anime season of about 12 episodes. Each episode is about 22 minutes long, always got 1,5 minutes opening and 1,5 minutes ending, about a minute preview and, let's be generous, 6 minutes flashbacks and 2 minutes stuff of the old episode. That leaves us with 10 minutes of new stuff. And let's be honest, these 10 minutes are stretched af!

If we now use the 180 minutes of movie content (which could be more, depending how long the movies are), this would equal to 18 anime episodes. Sure, the movies will also have flashbacks etc, but let's be real... an anime movie is usually not trying so hard to stall every fucking minute out of the series. 180 minutes of movies will deliver more content than 180 minutes of show.

I'm optimistic and will say that both movies together will deliver content equal to at least 2 seasons of show, if not even more, just for the fact that content delivery can be way more coherent and the studio involved is not pressured to stretch the fuck out of every single minute.

They can’t possibly fit over 100 chapters into one movie

I still believe that this FINAL movie is going to cover the BIGGEST MATCH of Haikyuu...that's all....they just can't mess up Production I.G.'s best adaptation you know...

You said it yourself "6 minutes flashbacks" and "these 10 minutes are stretched af". That's part of what makes Haikyu so good, the emotional significance of everything that's happening. If they just did the action across 2 movies then I can totally understand what you're saying. But the emotional buildup is a super important part of Haikyu.

Each movie would have to cover about 60 chapters. An anime movie is normally 100 minutes, sometimes 120. An episode has about 20 minutes of content, so a 100-minute movie is about 5 episodes. 120-minute movie is about 6 episodes. An average haikyu ep covers 3 - 5 chapters, but let's go with 5 chapters, which is still on the high side. 5 chapters every 20 minutes with a 100-minute movie would cover 25 chapters and 30 for a 120-minute movie, still not enough at all. Even 6 chapters every 20 minutes isn't enough. Because the movies seem to be taking very long, there is a tiny possibility they are 3 hours long. 180 minutes would mean 45 chapters covered with 5 chapters per 20 minutes. if they did 6 or 7 chapters per 20 minutes, 180-minute movie would cover 54 or 63 chapters, which is probably enough. the problem is that 6 or 7 chapters covered every 20 minutes consistently will feel rushed, not to mention that's with two 3 hour movies. I think our main hope is that these movies will just cover the rest of haikyu to the top and leave the rest for an actual season 5.

I agree with the emotional buildup. But you have to agree that stuff will get repeated over and over and over again within the anime series just because episodes are released on a weekly basis. You will notice it way more if you binge watch it compared to the "normal" way. This is not needed within a movie tho, as you don't need to build up some tension what was lost over last week. Thats why i mean a 100 minute movie can cover way more content than 100 minutes of episodes.

If you assume each movie will be 2h 30m then that would be 150+150 so 300 minutes. If they were to adapt 100 chapters in 300 minutes then they would have to adapt 1 chapter every 3 minutes, sounds quite unrealistic. The movies will most likely be rushed and they are gonna skip some content, maybe even chapters.

Friends are nothing more than the people who you spend the fun, yet meaningless times with. When those times get rough, they aren’t there to support you.

I didn't read the manga, so I don't know how many match is left for Shoyo and the boys, nor how many characters flashback is in the rest of the manga.

But I refuse to say that flashback and emotional bond with audience is what makes haikyuu good. I don't think having flashback is necessary bad, but I think we have plenty already in the regular seasons. At least we have the flashbacks of the major characters like the senior trio, Tanaka, Noya, Shoyo, Kageyama, and Tsukki's. We even have Shimizu's and some background story for Yacchan.

To me, it's the volleyball match's intensity is what makes the anime good. considering how the last season goes, I wish they don't add that anymore as the pace of the show slowed down too much and took away the feel of the match (I used to participate in a competitive team sport, so maybe I just want some of that dopamine). Another thing I wish they don't do is no more people talking and monologue with static image scene. or at least lessen them. especially if the drawing is wavering on those parts.

I believe Haikyuu is among the best sport anime's if not the best. it'd be too bad to defile this with insignificant flashbacks, unnecessary chatters, and monologue. Even better, without those, the movie can get more of the matches and the best of the series.
if you want good story, read novel. if you want good graphic, read manga. anime is beyond that.

Do we at least know this is coming out? its been almost 3 years and I get that 2 movies (could be 2 to 3 hours long) takes ages to make and they probably have other stuff to work on but I want to know at least what month/season of the year it will come out?
