Casca and Guts have approached positions with this delicate situation!!! Guts shows that he is quite a gentleman, it shows that he loves her more than he says. t's Griffith's turn, will he be on time? Kekeke |

And we finally get a new scene. Kinda hard to not notice the awkward transition from the old footage to the new cgi models. Not bad tho. Next episode is the bonfire scene, let's see how it goes. |

I really hate the laggy and blurry flashback. That type of editing can only work for short sequences. A whole flashback like that is so annoying to stare at. Either way, nice episode overall. Cgi still looks like a ps2 game, while the 2D is meh as always. The pacing is all over the place as well. BUT, it's Berserk. At this point I've just accepted they'll never try to do this series justice with a proper adaptation. And the quality of this memorial edition is fine by seasonal anime standards. |

I'd recommend taking a look at how well they remade the problematic CGI in the movies side by side, at that. This episode had the biggest number of model corrections, and differences are day and night in some parts. |

I'm loving it. Really enjoying re-experiencing this adaptation again. I feel the three movies are by far the best BERSERK adaptions despite the CG (and lack of Wyald), so it's been a pleasure watching this so far. I was expecting to dig it just because it's BERSERK, but I'm actually looking forward to each new episode now. |

Most definitely, the new scenes look as good as all the several 3D model, color hue, brightness and scenery adjustments they made during this whole episode. it's definitely new stuff in terms of what they are doing with what they have nowadays to improve this edition. Now, if that was a scene they already had and reworked with said technical advancements, nobody knows, but I'll go with their word that the scenes are new, they definitely look better and mesh with their now old but adjusted style. For some examples: People in here severely underappreciate and undervalue the amount of care being put in many places of this Memorial Edition since we only got a few new bits so far, in my opinion. I'm expecting them to come in more length after the Bonfire of Dreams personally (I can number a few skipped scenes that can fit well as flashbacks in the third movie content, if they were to still go for retroactive extensions). |

There were so many changes compared to the movie version. Positive changes, if I may add. Improved CGI models, added details, redrawn faces... So far this episode had the most improvements out of all episodes released up until now. What's more, one scene has been extended. It wasn't a brand new scene, at least I wouldn't call it like that. It was just really well implemented extension of already existing scene. At first I was like "was this dialogue as long in the movie as well?", but after I searched for more information on the Internet I found out that indeed that scene was not like that in Battle of Doldrey movie. Can't wait to see more extensions like that, or brand new scenes. Overal, great episode. As it should be. After all it featured Blue Whale Ultra Heavy Armored Fierce Assault Annihilation Knight Corps of the Tudor Army, hehe. ;-) My only complaint? They didn't make Casca departing to bring help to Guts look better. I mean that one particular moment in which Casca stops for a moment before running away to seek help. She looked weird, as if she unnaturally froze for a second. Lack of motion surely ruined that moment, even if only a litte. Oh well. |

Oh yes, Guts and Casca moment after she has been rescued by Guts and how she feels towards Guts and Griffith relationship and her own relationship with Griffith with how he saved her from a sexually assault back then when she was little, and in this world having a PTSD like that is clearly the worst (well she's not the only one of course), anyway the fights looked pretty good for an episode packed like that |

Let's see how they handle Bonfire but I doubt my opinion will change. If they did complete remaster and added new animation with missing scenes we would be having different discussion. If I am being brutally honest, this edition should not happened in the first place. I consider this spit in the face. It's been 25 years since first Berserk adaptation and that version looks X times better than this crap. On the bright side, at least you can add another studio to the list that should not touch Berserk ever again. |

Not even 97's anime adaptation did the manga proper justice, that would have to be a new production altogether. |

Everything looks and feels underwhelming. Now, maybe I went into this with high expectations but considering the marketing for this and the fact that it has Berserk title attach to it, I think I have the right to expect to be treated as fucking gold. I know there is a limit about how much they can do but, come on now... at least give me new opening. Sure, maybe I am more disappointed than others but even you have to admit that you expected more from this based on the announcement. Also, your "bettering the movie trilogy" really doesn't stand since this is now TV series we are talking about. Movie trilogy has nothing to do with it (yeah, it is recut based from the movies but that's besides the point). That is, unless they decide to do the same with movies and rerelease them. Which, I don't know what would be the point. I'm guessing there will be (maybe) DVDs of the series if they are so desperate for money... which would not surprise me at all. |

I know there is a limit about how much they can do but, come on now... at least give me new opening. Sure, maybe I am more disappointed than others but even you have to admit that you expected more from this based on the announcement. I don't think you quite know how TV Recuts for anime movies work. They are meant to be exactly that, the movie recut into episodes, with some new scenes and adjustments in-between. This being an adaptation expansion including an entire skipped chapter is already far more than 99% of TV recuts do for their movie source. When it comes to Movie-to-TV edits, you gotta keep your expectations in check, and only expect some minor additions from the start. My hopes sure went higher than what was proposed (only the Bonfire of Dreams, so far), but that's just me dreaming a what-if, what I expected from the start was a TV Edit of the movie with the Bonfire of Dreams included, which would already make for a better version of what we got, being honest. "Also, your "bettering the movie trilogy" really doesn't stand since this is now TV series we are talking about. Movie trilogy has nothing to do with it (yeah, it is recut based from the movies but that's besides the point)." It more than stands, and it's quite literally what this has been marketed as, a Memorial edition of the movie trilogy, and not a TV series remake of it. It has everything to do with it, as it is IT, and we knew that much since the announcement, and that IS what we are talking about when talking about this recut. It's classified as a new TV Series entry in-name only, the content is basically the same, but with tweaks and additions. It's like the polar opposite of compilation movies, and that's yet another thing to keep your expectations in check for. Not at all besides the point, and if you thought otherwise, you probably haven't read the announcement trailer's text nor the staff's tweets. I'm guessing there will be (maybe) DVDs of the series if they are so desperate for money... which would not surprise me at all. You seem to be lenient on the idea this salute from the staff is a cash-grab, but no, there aren't any even DVDs for this listed, much like most of the edited re-airings for any anime show or movie ever don't get DVDs for them (not even if they have several new OPs/EDs and adjustments for their reairings, like Gintama and Soul Eater. Usually only the far bigger ones like Gundam and Kimetsu no Yaiba), and they didn't bother making any other edition after the BD Box from 2016. Berserk also is very niche in Japan, if it does get a Memorial Edition DVD/BD, it's already far more than what I would hope, and likely very limited. Other than that, the "fault" wouldn't befall on them or the studio on itself, but likely on behalf of Young Animal's (who are the ones who call the shots in the first place) The money being spent on this production will probably (hopefully) get paid by the broadcasting/streaming on itself, and if they are hoping to get more money from this to, perhaps, do a next project, that's definitely not the way to do things lucratively. Then again, they would be funded by a production comittee, which case in point, still would be far away from making them "desperate for money", let alone only making this with that intent LOL You should consider at the very least watching "Anime Production 101 for beginners", aka Shirobako, to have at least an idea on how silly such a notion from this situation would be, that's just not how things work. Compilation movies on the other hand, the very opposite, DO serve a purpose of gathering money more efficiently for an eventual new production, as the movie tickets would directly go back to the production committee on itself, and not have broadcasting and streaming services bureocracy in midst of it. Re-airing slots (same applies to Recuts like this) usually get money to the network more than it does for the contracts on themselves, and are usually used so that series that get too many intervals not to lose much relevance until an eventual renewing in production. If anything, Young Animal would be losing money on this, most likely, which can bring one to conclude this is more of a passion project in honor of Miura's passing (as if Memorial in the name wouldn't imply that enough, but hey). If they wanted to get money from this, they would rerelease it as an extended and revised cut in cinemas and sell some BD/DVD while at it, as it would be far more profitable than what they are doing here. |

I know that. That's not my issue. What I am saying to you is that this recut sucks compered to others I saw. And there are many reasons. Those adjustments are literally non-existent and transitions between episodes are horrible. It's almost impossible to watch. The places where you needed extended or new scenes the most are not there. They placed AMV in the second episode to fill the time length. Because why not. Then again, what did Ufotable did with Kimetsu recut? And, yeah, I know that Bonfire is emphasis of this edition. However, extra scenes (excluding Bonfire) not seen in the movies and remaster. Their words, not mine. Ok, my bad for thinking something else. And I guess remaster is minor improvement over CGI that still looks bad by modern standards. Didn't Akira got 4K remaster just recently? You consider this "bettered version of golden age movies". I consider this terrible TV series. I can't help but wonder, what would have happened if Hakusensha asked OLM to do movies edition of 97 anime? I'm pretty sure they would do better job than... well anything that came after their own adaptation from 25 years ago. |

Nice to see more clear 2D animation for the better part of this episode. I also love how they added that scene where Casca explains why she dislikes Guts in the cave, iirc it definitely was not included in the movie itself. It did seem a bit rushed for the sake of the episode's duration, but it's still great to see new slight additions. The transition from the new material back to the movie footage looks a bit awkward in some bits, but you can tell that the studio has put much effort into polishing what they had and making subtle changes to elevate the visuals. The 100-men battle also looked clearer to me, it was definitely a great adaptation of its manga counterpart! |
