So, I just finished this masterpiece after putting it off for years. It truly was an experience. Only thing I can say is I wonder how our boy and San settled down? He said he'd live with her in the forest plus in the village so i hope that means some human pups brought up as wolves and human haha. The other thing is man, our bro really just gave the girl at the start who gave him the crystal dagger a big "fuck you," along with the rest of his og village haha. (would be cool to see a short of him and San travelling there as he was their prince).

i think the open ended ending was a good choice and the best one possible. it leaves you with some room to imagine exactly how their lives played out after without having a specific answer as to what exactly happened with them.

i like to think the same as you. ashitaka living with her in the forest while also living in his village to support his people… maybe some kids, who knows but it’s fun to think about and you are left the option to make your own head canon and i like that.

I agree. The open ending also feels fitting for the 'old legend/mythology' style of the movie.

It's not an ending I personally fully enjoyed because of how open the world is. With the village at the beginning, to how Lady Eboshi just said "fuck this" after everything was done, to some other geopolitical things that were going on iirc. It all just kinda existed floating in the air with no real close. Oh well. Can make what you will of it.

i mean the closest is just "spirited away", the premise is different but there's some resemblances throughout the plot

Mate, Ashitaka was banished / exiled from his village. He can't go back. This is why when he left they all turned their backs on him and the crystal dagger giver was breaking the rules by speaking with him.

Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind is not the same, but scratches a similar itch. I actually like it more, though both are great. Castle in the Sky is also a good one.

True, but it would be nice to see something. It's kinda like how your name's ending is still sad even tho we get a bit of a hint and then a lot more than that in weathering with you.

Yeah, its unfortunate but we get that a lot with movies, especially anime ones.
