I'm not sure if this was answered in the episode 4 discussion thread since I didn't look at it for fear of spoilers, but why is there an episode 4 discussion thread? I checked on Google and it seems the 4th episode was shown at some anime convention? Should there be an episode thread if the episode hasn't been released to the general public? I checked Crunchyroll and they only have episodes 1-3 there. Or is there something I'm missing here?

Unfortunately, episode discussion threads are allowed to be created as soon as the episode drops ANYWHERE, even if only a minimal number of people have seen it.

From what I know episode 4 will release tmrw.
It first aired eps 1-3 premiere then it will air again on July 10th which is tmrw.

episode 4 will be released on the 24th following the tv broadcast schedule

The guy above said it was suppose to be today, July 10th. Though, I wouldn't be surprised if they wait until July 24 to release the next episode. I guess that's just what happens when you release three episodes all at once.

Also, why is this listed as a special? Isn't this an anime TV series like most anime here? I even remember seeing this on the front page as one of the more popular anime people were looking forward to this season.

And speaking of seasons, why is this listed under Spring 2022? Anilist has this listed as Summer 2022.

Probably some mod decided to fix the initially correct tags to the wrong ones. Why? I don't know, maybe he just hates rwby and wants to hide it so that it can't be found.

because the first 3 episode is pre-air episode, and also they fix the animation in broadcast version

I guess episode 1 - 3 is aired in advanced. now we wait for at least 3 weeks then week 4 episode sequel will continue where it left off.

Not yet. I hope episode 4-5 will be good enough to get audiences to watch the show in its entirety. Failing to deliver at that stage could be detrimental to its success.
