I don't understand why every single song in the show is in English because lets be honest the singer's pronunciation of the English words is terrible. I mean they could just sing in Japanese not like the show is taking place in America or something. When I hear somebody mispronouncing words irrespective of how good of a singer they are it just distracts me, the opening and ending songs are fucking great but I really can't get into the songs in the anime itself. I am basically watching a music genre show for reasons other than the music tbh. I am not saying that Japanese people shouldn't sing in English but what I am saying is they could have just stuck with Japanese that way it would have sounded more natural and probably would have been easier too for the voice actors. Basically singing in English just seems unnatural and forced in this show.

it's definitely puzzling, i find it more amusing than distracting. the songs are definitely written by non native speakers, the lyrics are way too clunky. i think it's pretty cool tho and impressive that the japanese singers, while not fluent, are understandable in a different language. it's definitely weird tho, why not just make it easier on everyone and do it in japanese? especially since the primary audience are japanese

Exactly like the show isn't really catering to the entire world not like the big ones are like Demon Slayer, AOT etc. Paripi Koumei is a niche sort of a show which if you are watching then chances are you are either japanese or very much into japanese stuff so the English singing imo was simply not required.

I've only seen one episode as of now but isn't it because she was inspired by an American singer? It would make sense why she's singing in English. Plus, seeing that it's set in a very modern day Japan, it's not uncommon for Japanese singers to sing in English.

Her inspiration was an American singer and now English language is a worldwide common language so it is not weird for me actually and when you consider it is set in modern day Tokyo it makes even more sense

omfg this againn😭😭

do you think people whose main language isn't english doesn't listen to english songs? when they're probably one of the most popular song no matter what country? ariana grande is knows basically everywhere, fucking adelle, mj, jessie j, charlie puth, mariah carey, etc etc. eiko likes western artists, she likes their songs, she sings what she likes. simple as that. music isnt limited to languages, if your enjoyment is ruined bc of their pronunciation then sorry for that ig? not everyone is fully fluent in english lol, try getting used to it

? I just said they didn't need to? I literally said if they sang in their native language then it would sound more natural and probably even better now they decided not to so I was wondering what the reason for that was pretty sure the title of the post is "Why are all the songs in English?" instead of "Japanese people should just sing in Japanese". Also I have talked with quite a few people and they said that they too didn't like the songs in the show so it's not as if mine is a hot take. Also I understand not everyone is fluent in English because I belong to a country which doesn't speak English natively, my point was they don't need to force it. Also about Eiko being inspired by western artists and all that didn't the other singers sing in English too? You didn't feel even a little weird when all these singers normally talking in Japanese suddenly switched over to English when it came to singing?

See it's not just her pretty much every singer you encounter sings in English for the most part what I am trying to say is they shouldn't have bothered with singing in English. Singing with what you are comfortable with would produce better results.

If it’s catered towards Japanese people as you said, they won’t notice or mind the subtle clunky lyrics because not everyone there is fluent in English.

Lots of us listen to Japanese/anime songs without even understanding the language, nor do we know if the lyrics are clunky and bad, yet we still like them. This is the same with Japanese people and English songs.

Fair point makes sense I should have taken that into consideration. Thanks for a take which makes sense and to not immediately attack me.

Well… the singer that influenced Eiko and changed her mind from killing herself was a American singer. And the song she’s been singing last few eps is a cover song from that singer. Eiko’s original edm songs contains both Japanese and English. At least the rap songs are all Japanese? lol

Musicians in Japan that want a broader audience make songs in English or a mix of Japanese and English. This is true of pretty much any country because English is so widely spoken across the globe as a secondary language.

mm yeah okay i get your point a bit better now thanks

but no not really, i can kinda see "how" it'll be weird ig but it isn't for me. ppl in my country sing western songs all the time, same as my friends or just people that i know who speaks other languages. iii just?? ? its normal?😭 maybe its bc we (understandably) expect them to sing in japanese as it Is anime, animation from japan and so far they rarely sing in english, so the english caught us off guard and the singers english isn't rly the best but honestly it doesnt bother me. as to "why" maybe to do something a bit different? or just.. bc they wanted to
