After giving time for this episode to sink in, I feel like as good as the twists were, it could have went even a step further. What if the last brainwashing word came not from Zenigata's female companion, but from Fujiko herself? What if Fujiko this whole time was brainwashed by Tomoe? This would explain why she has always been by his side for decades and is obsessed with him. This would also add so much more emotional weight. This could have even gone another step further and the whole crew including Zenigata could have been revealed to be brainwashed to stick with Lupin through the decades. Wouldn't that be an insane twist? Or do you think that would be too insane and would inherently ruin all the previous Lupin stories and characters and wouldn't be worth it to do even if it could make this whole twist even crazier?
That would be an incredible twist that noone would ever have seen coming but I feel like it would sit really badly with the majority of the fans if it was suddenly revealed that the gang where together all those years because of that. Maybe a more tame approach would be that Tomoe could have been responsible for Lupin meeting Fujiko in the first place. I think the season 2 story doesn't need many fixes, especially if it hits the landing. I wish they had taken a darker approach to the Holmes story though. Maybe have Lupin actually kill Watson and then live to regret it, it would make his rivarly with Holmes and interactions with Lilly so much better, and you could maybe have the gang have second thoughts about Lupin upon hearing about it.
Yeah, most likely that would be many fans reactions. Retconning an entire series like that can easily backfire. I think the disappointment to the lack of the darker approach is the fault of the season's advertising. It falsely set expections.nyugvo6 said:anime-prime said:@AddaeAkono @Zaku71 @poemofdevil @nyugvo6 @JCRide

iirc zenigata is related to lupin, different moms or dads? wonder if it was retconned by now. that's plenty of reason for his obsession.
I know I will regret thinking about this, but I think fujiko is the wildcard here.
lupin's mindscape started to distort after fujiko's kiss, he's fighting against the hypnosis but she was the one who pulled him back. she's also the first person he had a conversation with after the stuff kicked in.
there's no way in hell that tomoe is lupin's mom either. they'll end it in "who knows?" at worst.
I don't recall that ever being mentioned anywhere, and if it was ever hinted at, it definitely hasn't been canonized as far as I know. I really hope it doesn't end in a "who knows" situation, but it very well might.poemofdevil said:anime-prime said:@AddaeAkono @Zaku71 @poemofdevil @nyugvo6 @JCRide

It would have been amazing. That said I wouldn't go to the extreme and brainwash everyone. I would prefer there to be some level of authenticity with most of the crew. But one other person, either Fujiko or Zenigata, would have been perfect in that role as neither are in Lupin's inner circle as Goemon or Jigen are.
Understandable. Haha, Fujiko and Zenigata both would have been perfect. Zenigata just "coincidentally" never being able to catch Lupin for good? All part of Tomoe's plan, haha.
