you are now faced with the grim reality that there will be more bad FLCL than good FLCL in your lifetime.

that is why I haven't watched and will not watch any FLCL other than the original

Based. I did the mistake of giving the sequels the benefit of doubt. No refunds sadly.
Let's see if I can handle the Tom & Jerry artstyle of the new ones... Probably not.

pretty much, yeah.

trying to re-capture lightning in a bottle once is bad enough. 4 times, though? it's such a waste. make something new instead.

I agree completely. Progressive was bad; I didn't even bother to watch Alternative.

Alternative is better than Progressive... but it's still bad.

The lore or what happens to the characters after the original conclusion aren't important and Adult Swim thinking that this show needed more answers are missing the point entirely and its laughable. I hate what they're doing to this franchise. Havent seen progressive/alternative and I'm not watching this new one either

Same here, unfortunately the younger audience might not know this and will have their experience and memories with the series tainted

Say what you want about progressive and alternative but they had clear visions and effort was placed into them. Flcl isn’t the most profitable anime in the first place, so I doubt Grunge and Shoegaze will lack identity, even if they’re bad

I think the problem is that they're not even trying to re-capture the lightning in a bottle. They're jjust milking it solely for monetary gain.

The creator of FLCL and his team have zero involvement with any of the sequels as they're both working at Studio Khara and FLCL is not their property anymore.

Khara was going to obtain FLCL but Gainax screwed them over back in 2014 but Gainax was so bad at handling itself that it soon sold FLCL for much less than Khara offered because they were desparate.

Yeah, sometimes it's best to let sleeping giants (the original FLCL) lie. Hope that they come out with a decent product, though.

hmm, well that would've been interesting in an alternate universe, but i can't see Khara doing much with FLCL - although having them protect it from these awful sequels would've been just fine as well.

iirc, even the original creator basically said that FLCL was made at a unique time in his life and couldn't be re-created with the same kind of energy.

EXACTLY.

But they won't stop.

Just look at Boruto...

I say, let them do whatever, not like we can stop them.
But we can stop watching shit. Stop forcing ourselves to watch it.

Just go watch whatever you want, watch good shit.
If you want to watch Boruto and other milkable shit, then that is on you.
if you are unhappy then or people call you a disgusting casual with shit taste, then don't you dare argue against it. Consequences of your actions.

What I did to the new FLCL series is to put them on "DROPPED" status to never see them again.

Yup, the first attempt should have made it clear that any attempt to capture the magic of the original was nearly impossible. (even without all the fucking bullshit shoved into the attempt) But still more!

They should be spending this money on new ANIME series. AT worst, they could be paying to get lesser known and older series dubbed.. Or to get anime series for manga series that never got them!

Fair point, but hope, pandora's box, nostalgia and all that s**t. If you loved the original you owe it to your childhood self to give it the benefit of the doubt. I know I will, heck I'm even going to watch the two movies that came out in the 2010s.

Progressive sucked but I actually kind of liked Alternative... it wasn't as deep or emotional as the original but it wasn't bad to me

Yeah they should have aired Alternative first, it might have generated more good faith. It didn't deserve to be billed as a FLCL sequel, but it's definitely better than Progressive, which felt like the directing and storyboarding was handed off to a bunch of students who never worked on a show before.

I only accept FLCL as being a work of newcomer trainees in the industry trying their first big thing. Back in the days it was much harder to get on this produciton train (while now people being hired directly through Twitter).

I think it was a great opportunity for people (even though as a final product it is an obvious hit-or-miss for the same reasons).

Other than that (kinda "Youth Theatre" department) I don't find any reason for FLCL to continue.

There is chance it will be cancelled since Warner is cutting everything hard. Recently shitloads shows were removed from HBO max (like Fena, BR Black Lotus and Shenmue anime). Since FLCL sequels were co-produced by Adult Swim there is hope for cancellation of these shitfests

A complete mess to the bad, the writers are only grabbing things from the first season, made by Gaimax because it is the best of all, chewing them up with their garbage ideas. They have no fresh ideas. They are just releasing seasons like crazy so as not to lose the rights due to lack of use and the Japanese studios do not recover it

I'm not going to be fooled by those at Adult Swim with that garbage CGI animation saying that it is experimental art with the quick changes to 2D they only want to copy the animation of the anime getting garbage results, the American studios to have good animation from the 70's, 80's again 90's and mid 2000's they should go to school again change everything they learned and waste a lot of people

2023 and this is the best that Adult Swim can do right now, it is not even a shadow of what it was

I agree. Now, the story for FLCL did have room to expand and such in more animated shows, but I don't think they've done it too well with the series and stories that came after the original one from early 2000s.
