I know ToCS1 is the 6th game in the series and I didn't played the prequels but people and Falcom said you can start from this game so I did and...IT'S HORRIBLE!

-Class 7 interaction: The Blank Self Insert MC start his school life. Five minutes later his head is in the worst girl boobs. Slap on the face. It was a sign to drop this game and never play again but I was stubborn.

Everyone in the class 7 is a generic walking trope and they character arc is previsible and poorly executed. There's barely a real interaction between the character (there's some exceptions like Laura x Fie, Machias x Jusis but they are bad)

Examples:

Machias: ''I hate Nobles'' (Probably a Noble made something bad for him or his family)
''They made something bad to my family so I hate Jusis'' (They will become friend in the future thanks to MC intervension)
''Sorry Jusis. Rean openned my eyes. There's some good nobles in this world'' (Fujoshis will love it except Jusis is a ped0)

Alisa: ''KYAA. he touched my boobs'' ( Oh look the first girl trope)
''Stop look at other girls Rean but we are just friends'' *stare* ( The classic stupid tsundere arc. Next is problem with her family)
''My mother hates me'' (Based mother. But here comes the MC generic speech)

''cHaRaCTah DevElOpMenT''

It's an 80 hours game and the plot won't goes anywhere. I know there's a sequel but nothing interesting hapenned in this game.

The Class 7 vs. Class 1 is a joke.

The Civil War started at the end. But I refuse to play another shit game.

The Old School mistery is interesting but very poorly executed. It was just a excuse to have some fights between the chapters.

Maybe if Emma was the ''main'' heroine instead that tsundere crap and they focused more in the ''mistery'' we could have a more insteresting game.

The same for Crow. Why wait until the end? I have 0 interest to see how things will happen but I certanly in the end (problably ToCS4) he will return

Rean: ''We will bring he back'' after he sniped a important political figure. They friendship is in that level? How?

And the dating simulator conflicts with the story for the most stupid reason: harem.
There's no need for a canon harem in a dating sim game. Monogamy is not a option? Why?

I like dating sim in video games (especially in games where the main heroine sucks like ToCS) but this game don't know how to handle it. It's frustrating.

In the end I feels like I watched the worst ''seasonal generic anime'' in my life. 80 hours = 200 episodes. 😨😱😭

They said the anime will have a original story with another character. This is a good news but what about the bad writers, they will return too?

I like some Falcom games (Ys) and the most important thing I learned is: ''Never heard Trails fans they don't know the difference about quantity and quality''

Is this bait? I'll bite

Cold Steel has its fair share of problems, I agree but its nowhere near as bad as you're making it out to be.

The characters are generic yes, but they're not badly executed in my opinion. The start with Alisa is a very disliked aspect of the game so I'll give that to you.

The trails series is a series that take place in the content of Zemuria and all the games and stories are interconnected. The world building of cold steel is incredible, the NPC have their own life in a way that's unique to trails, the combat is fun although it can be trivialised if you know what you're doing.

It's a slow game, so if that's not your thing then I'm afraid the games aren't for you. It's not like Persona where you play a game and it's done. The trails series requires time put into it, to understand whats going on in the world and why.

Rean is over hated often because he's misunderstood and he's DEFINITELY not a self insert.

Like I said, the games have several problems and people generally think that it's the weakest arc out of Sky, Crossbell and the new Kuro, but you're blowing it way out of proportion. Maybe it's just not your type of game.

It's a slow paced game, where world building takes focus. If you're not into that then the series is not for you

It’s not a bait! I’m just very disappointed with this game.

I always saw people said the worldbuilding is great but this game show-i mean TELL me otherwise. The police is almost useless. The military is a joke. Everything is in the SUPER SPECIAL CLASS VII’s HANDS. They can stop the terrorists or kill big monsters. They are incredible!!! How can I supposed to believe the world is very built? For me is just another generic jrpg world but with more “quantity”.

Too much characters and places but zero originality or personality. The NPCs story are...forgettable. I only remember the pink haired twins, the blonde nun girl and George the mechanic. I know the dialogue change if you talk with people but...is really worth my time? The main characters are already boring so why I should care about secondary characters? Why this is supposed to be relevant?

Like I said before they barely show anything(visual). The texts are very verbose with poorly written exposition. They really need to explain everything?

Rean is a “self Insert” without a doubt. Very generic design. Dense and blank personality. You can forge his bonds and even choose a romantic partner for him. The only thing you can’t control is his chick magnet. I know the entire premise of a RPG is Role Playing but his character is a shell. He don’t hate/love/like anyone/anything. There’s some personality traits but they are very weak.

Yes I hate Alisa. She is the type of character I most hate in Anime/Manga/LN. If only she was just one of the main characters I could easily ignore her but it feels like the devs loves too much the character and are persuading me to do the same in a artificial way.

I know the story continues but...at least tell some good events. Look the Old School House. Why don’t make something memorable like HP and The Chamber of Secrets for example. And the field studies are the same formula over and over. The same generic quests I found in every JRPG but this time there’s a lot of text to justify it like Genshin Impact.

And the gameplay is...whatever. It’s too much easy and very slow. The Special Crafts are OP. It’s a “turn based game” but only you have turns with the right speed quartz. Heal and shield in this game are broken. The monster designs are bad (this is a Ys problem too)

I can foresee a lot of things based in the events of the first game(tell me how right I am):

-The civil war started. The nobles are the strong side.
-Emma is a mage/witch like Misty and they are from a magic village/organization. Misty is banished from the village after using black magic but deepen inside it’s for a good reason.
-Rean will return to class 7 and they will not take side in the war ( It’s clear in the first game they are a “third party” so they will help innocent people instead fight the nobles. But some nobles are VERY BAD and will attack innocent people. Rean will defeat the bad nobles and will stop the war)
-Crow is not a bad guy so he will eventually return to class 7 the same for Misty and the village.
-The chancellor is alive somehow and will return as the bad guy. The nobles are the weak side now.
-Rean will join forces with Crow to beat the chancellor and the others awakenings that conveniently are chancellor allies and party member’s family or something like that)
-Now there’s a balance between Nobles and No-Nobles.
-Crow is free without any guilt. Happy ending!

-I can foresee too much filler and fanservice too justify 4 games. A beach episode? Maybe. And another reason I refuse to play another ColdSteel is: They will continue to persuade the player to love that shit character. Even after you choose another partner for Rean (or they probably will erase the last bonding event and you will have to forge things from the start and they will give priority to her.)

Can’t say anything about Sky, Crossbell or this Kuro but I will prefer to not play them cause I had too much already. The majority of JRPG I played had bad story but none of them even tried to sell a great story but lied and fill my time with crap.

This is entirely a troll/bait topic. Half of this could be easily discarded, or just flat out wrong and speaks volumes that the person was either doing this on purpose or just did not pay any attention when playing the game.

The fact you didn’t play any of the prequels when this is an overarching plot is hilarious.

The Trails fanboys conflated a long running continuity and lots of NPC dialogue with great worldbuilding.

Personally I found the actual setting to be overall disinteresting. Only interesting parts about it are the airships factoring into war, and Erebonia's history. That being said, the strong continuity is a plus, IMO.

I know the dialogue change if you talk with people but...is really worth my time?

I'd say yes for the Thors student NPCs as you see them throughout the entire Quadtrilogy. I wouldn't bother keeping up with the other NPCs.

Rean is a “self Insert” without a doubt. Very generic design. Dense and blank personality.

I wouldn't say he's a "blank personality". He does have a personality; it just isn't in vogue for Western tastes who view traditional good guys as boring. The Western audience hated Kira Yamato for similar reasons while the Japanese loved him.

Yes I hate Alisa.

Is my least favorite of the main girls, especially when compared to Laura and Towa, but not awful.

Look the Old School House. Why don’t make something memorable like HP and The Chamber of Secrets for example.

The Old School House is a filler dungeon that exists to break up the pacing, otherwise the first half of a chapter set at a school would be like 5+ continuous hours of downtime. I have argued before that the Old School House should have been more fleshed out, ie ghost NPCs in it to talk to or ancient computers to boot up and read. The Trails games could be improved in a variety of ways, but alas Falcom has a corporate mandate to shove a game out the door once a year every year regardless of whether they are ready or not, so the games are never as good as they could have been with extra time in the oven.

And the field studies are the same formula over and over.

Formulas aren't bad. The field studies establish the setting, the characters, and the conflict before it begins proper. I did think that the chapters 5 and 6 were a little too long, though.

The same generic quests I found in every JRPG

Trails's sidequests are a little more interesting than your typical JRPG, such as changing out the lights on an Orbal Lamp that keeps monsters away from a highway, or using a dog to follow a culprit's scent.

but this time there’s a lot of text to justify it like Genshin Impact.

If you don't like long winded games, then you shouldn't be playing modern JRPGs. Play short, old games like Suikoden 1.

And the gameplay is...whatever. It’s too much easy and very slow.

I thought CS1 and CS2 had one of the most enjoyable turn based combat systems I've played in a JRPG, and I've played dozens and dozens of JRPGs (let alone WRPGs). You have a little of different ways you can meaningfully build your characters. Link attacks spruce up the monotony of turn based combat.

The monster designs are bad (this is a Ys problem too)

They're overall okay and several of them were quite memorable, IMO, like the Creepy Sheep, the Death Wheels, the snakes wrapped around eggs, etc.

none of them even tried to sell a great story but lied and fill my time with crap.

Avoid modern Atelier, Persona, Fire Emblem, and Tales games while you're at it.

Can’t say anything about Sky, Crossbell or this Kuro but I will prefer to not play them cause I had too much already.

Thanks for trying out the series. Hope you find something you like. :)

After CS4, I could not in good conscience recommend the Trails games based off of the merit of the "overarching plot". After 11 games and 1,000+ hours of playtime, the Ouroboros storyline has gone absolutely nowhere. And the world war storyline that had been built up since FC ended in anticlimax and the reset button being hit because the writers pussied out and were unwilling to have towns be burned and characters hate and kill each other. Yes, there is strong continuity but ultimately each arc is about its own original characters, not past characters, so you're not missing much by skipping prior games. These are also incredibly lengthy games and telling people that they have to slog through 500+ hours of games they might not even enjoy as a prerequisite to playing the game they wanted to check out in the first place is irresponsible.

I can only recommend individual Trails games based off of their merit, that being the Trails in the Sky trilogy and the first two Cold Steel games. If you finished those and are really desperate to play more Trails, then sure, check out Crossbell and CS3 and CS4. Otherwise, your time would be better spent playing other games or doing something else.

Yes... Emma and Crow are wasted characters and could had saved some aspects of the game. But Tsunderes and Maiden in Distress are popular for some stupid reason and Falcom never tried to write a good story in first place just a ''generic school dating simulator''
