While I wasn't a fan of the last few didactic episodes, the themes of Parasyte struck a chord. Here's something I found:

Episode 1 is named "The Metamorphosis", as in the book by Kafka? I mean it's obvious nothing new. Tokyo Ghoul mentions it too if I remember correctly. The book where a guy turns into a bug, dealing with isolation and existentialism.

Episode 5 has the title "The Stranger". As in, a dart in the dark, Albert Camus' book? Another book dealing with existence.

Episode 7 "A Dark Night's Passing" can be a nod to another novel by Naoya Shiga. It, I quote its blurb, "tells the story of a young man's passage through a sequence of disturbing experiences to a hard-worn truce with the destructive forces within himself." Rings a bell? Shinichi after the hole in his heart.

Episode 9 is "Beyond Good And Evil" — a reference to maybe the same named book by often-quoted (in mainstream media) philosopher Frederick Nietzeche. You can guess it. The nothing is good and evil thingy?

Episode 10 "What Mad Universe" by Fredric Brown. A classic sci-fi short stories collection. I don't know what it is about though.

Episode 11 "The Blue Bird" by Maurice Maeterlinck is a fairy tale. Remember Kana's fairy dream? Hmm.

Episode 14 "The Selfish Gene" by Richard Dawkins. Again, this is sorta in line with why we exist. Evolution and such theories.

Episode 16 "Something Wicked This Way Comes" by Ray Bradbury. A horror fantasy novel.

Episode 18 "More Than Human" by Theodore Surgeon. It "explores questions of power and morality, individuality and belonging". Sounds about right.

Episode 19 "In Cold Blood" by Truman Capote, a nonfiction account of a serial killer.

Episode 20 is the classic "Crime and Punishment" by Fyodor Dostoevsky. Pretty sure I butchered the name. A heavy read about morality and, repetitive but I don't know a different word, existentialism.

This is a nice touch. It was an enjoyable show. Also the Next To You OST by Ken Arai is soooooooo hauntingly beautiful. What did you love about the show?

The main thing i love about parasyte is that it keeps you engaged through out the show . There werent any boring episodes. The ost and opening are fire . The mc and his bond with migi developed well through out the series. I like the fact that the show touches on how unfair and hypocritical humans really are . " When a human kills another human its called murder but when a human kills an animal its nothing " . I also like the fact that that the parasytes looked like regular humans cause the same way humans see parasyte is the same way animals see humans. I would have loved to get some more out of the ending and the side characters werent that interesting either . Solid 8/10

@purpleo1 yeah it is definitely a breath of fresh air and doesn't get boring at all.

Speaking of side characters, they were just there. With exception of the private detective, we don't see much.

@DRK-EXDS I didn't like the two female characters either. They're too stereotypical.

I swear I've been replaying "Next To You" over and over.

I don't know the remember the episode number but a episode is named 'The adventures of the dying detective' by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. It's one of the best stories featuring Sherlock Holmes, you should try it.

"Everything I've witnessed... This whole system you have built has always rejected me. Now I'm ready to reject it. That's why I destroy. That's why I took this power for myself. Simple enough, yeah? I don't care if you don't understand... That's what makes us... Heroes and Villains."

I wouldn't have either! But I watch slow because of less free time so they just popped out.
