I'm in the midst of watching Meikyuu Black Company and they have a lot in common, but are also very different.

The characters in Sentouin are very likable and often very similar to Konosuba. They have good interactions with each other. But the story overall is just negligible, boring and for some reason they repeat it. ep 7-11 are basically the same as the first 6. there is nothing major happening. they could have done so much more with him sabotaging the demon forces. the lack of story development leaves a bitter after taste. There is also very little in terms of history and universe explanation. Some jokes get old very fast. Other jokes could have been explored way more, like that the local army only wants to fight fair and head-on while our hero lays traps and basically abuses every opportunity.

If you want to see how to make an anti-hero story good, watch Black Company. It twists, brings new characters, changes places and goals, the characters develop way more. The universe and history gets a lot of exploration&explanation.

Sentouin should have been a long(er) running story with 4-5 episodes per location, hopping from planet to planet and "conquering" them, meeting new people at each place and maybe adding them to the group or randomly meeting them again somewhere else.

Well, this is from the same author as KonoSuba and came out before KonoSuba.

Decent production, jokes aren't that great cuz it came out before Konosuba.

I really loved Konosuba, but this title didn’t really hit it for me. Severe lack of character depth and the story is pretty basic, but that’s just my opinion. I think having seen Konosuba before this made my opinion of this Anime worse.

Knowing beforehand that it was written by Konosuba writers might have clouded my opinion, but I found the comedy in this anime to be very inferior compared to Konosuba. And keeping the comedy aside, there was nothing much to the plot so I ended up dropping the anime.
