This was an amazing manga. I loved the ending and i'm so glad that this is the first manga i have ever completed and the third manga i have ever started to read.
It was awesome to see everyone in the end.

The final chapter itself was pretty great. I enjoyed the final talk between Omega & Risa, and in particularly the transition where Risa gains Omega's memories was really well done, only focusing on their expressions before panning out to show her fade out.

The highlight comes after, and of course it's the vertical spread. The constant zooming out leading to pitch black transition into the white void with Max was such a great use of the vertical scrolling that couldn't be achieved if this was told any other way. It's not the stronger instance of it, but it's another moment where it sort of reads like animation. The end bit with the whole gang around, Judah, Tokamak, and Dragon included, as well as separate bodies for PP & Lani, was nice. A little odd that Lani is giving the final words of the series and our Ruska actually says nothing.

As for the series as a whole it's hard for me to rate. I do feel like the series did start to lose my interest after the whole Earth reveal, I think the colony arc was really strong though and it definitely handled it way better than I thought but otherwise it got a bit bogged down in the science talk and I didn't really care that much for Kepler's appearance as the big bad at the end. Again, I've pointed to good things about it in my posts, most of my comments were positive, I certainly don't think it's bad, just least interesting to me. Maybe because the world itself is just less interesting as a setting than The Vertical World itself, I don't know why.

I think the highlight for me was probably the whole Geezer arc or the Fake Gluon arc. They both had some of the more interesting scientific weird rules and story elements to it, but also had some more ground emotional weight for the characters. Fake Gluon death was sort of sweet and though Lani's death goodbye was really well-executed, Geezer's disappearance is remained the emotional highpoint for me. Maybe because it's the only one that doesn't sort of just get reversed by the end. The PP arc was pretty strong too, though I remember kinda losing interesting in that at points, though the save Kelvin aspect of that arc certainly got me a lot more invested, so strong when it got there.

I think based on the story & characters I'd give the series a 7. However, I'm actually going to give it an 8 and that's because the series isn't just about the story & characters but the artwork. I do sort of feel like my feelings towards this series lean more towards a 7 if I'm being honest but The Vertical World is a very unique reading experience and that's down to it's structure. Look at my post right here, the thing I gushed the most about here how the vertically format was used, and there are countless examples of clever usage. It wasn't just written vertically for the sake of being different, it was because it best fit the story they were telling, and they constantly found new ways to showcase just how much of an asset vertical storytelling can be. I think it's the strongest aspect of the series and I'd recommend it based on that alone. The sparse use of colours was usually very good too.

I'll also say I genuinely do like the art style and the character designs (Robo-Kelvin especially), I think it's actually a strength of the series though many disagree. Where I can compromise with them though is with Chandra. His design is not just like not appealing, it's felt massively inconsistent, the way his hair flapped, his face shape, at the end he looked completely different, I just felt like one of the weakest aspects of the design.

So yeah, 8/10, a 7/10 series really bumped up for they way it's presented. Wish the series got more attention, always bums me out when I'm the one making most of the discussion threads.
