For my 18th birthday i was going to watch this with my family, and possibly some of my extended family. I know it's rated g, but i just wanted to make sure it's appeal is wide enough. There's a big age gap in the kids, and my brother is the only one who actually watches anime, so i also was worried about the appeal to westerners who wouldn't normally seek this movie out.
The adults: my parents and maybe my grandma and uncle
The kids: sister (4), brother (15), and maybe my cousins (both boys, 9 and 11)

Like I said, my main concerns are the very wide age range and proximity to normies.

Yup. The first time I watched this film was with my dad and my sister. I was 9 or 10, my sister was 6 or 7 and my dad was around 35 at that time and we all enjoyed it.

Yeah, the first time I watched it I was with my 2 cousins and we were 7 or 9 years old. It's that kind of film that everyone likes no matter the age.

Highly recommend doing so. This film is cute, adventurous, and definitely family appropriate. The film is great, just turn on dub (my family members appreciate it more) and grab some popcorn

I watched this with my family, they really liked it, so hopefully your family likes it too. I don't think you should worry about it, because this movie is really amazing, and is definitely for all ages.

Yeah definitely I first watched it when I was six with my mom and she said it's one of the cartoons she enjoyed watching with me(she doesn't know what anime is so she calls it a cartoon) I'm 18 now and still love it

You may surprised to know that there are guns and warfare for some of the movie so it may not be as kids appropriate as expected. Additionally, some of the themes of the movie if being watch critically may be very disagreeable. I would opt for Spirited Away or Tonari no Totoro.

Would you all please not recommend movies for all ages, when u dont even know the kids??? It highly depends on the individuals and u wont be the ones to take responsibility if anyone gets scared or damaged in any way.
You cannot tell how this influences a childs soul. For a four year old has a complete different perception than an adult or even a 9/10 year old.
Many gibhli movies have scenes i couldnt recommend for children for example parents turning into pig (like in chihiro).
For a kid this might be truly disturbing so chose carefully, yoj know ur family best.
