The duration is listed as 13 min. on the JP Wikipedia page (https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E3%81%AD%E3%81%9A%E3%81%BF%E3%81%AE%E3%82%88%E3%82%81%E3%81%84%E3%82%8A), this is just AniDB's duration rounding (correction submitted). |

The description on my video feeds about as much information as you can get without in-depth investigation, so here it is. It's also the good opportunity for you to know about the general history around this movie... I have little information to provide about the backstory of this short, so I'll go straight to the point. No ripper is attested in anidb, but several copies of the same raw are circulating on the web. It was animation produced by Toei in summer 1962. The Early Television Age is characterized by the decline of the old Cinema of District Age, of which Toei had a monopoly through its chain of theaters. Toei's supremacy in animation only lasted from 1955 to 1961, after they bought out Kyoto based Daiei to establish their own animation department. But with television becoming an entertainment staple of Japanese homes, a new demand for premium budget animation started to spike. It gave birth to a plethora of new animation studios after their founders departed Toei. Mogura no Motoro, produced in summer 1962, was one of the late Toei movies, during their theater focused incarnation. At work, you can see the perfected animal expressionism from Yasuji Mori, the director. He is an eminent pioneering figure, shaping the modern sensitivity of upcoming Japanese designers, as major contributors like Hayao Miyazaki or Isao Takahata modeled their own style after his. If you are a WMT aficionado, chances are you have seen Mori's input as a chara-designer or key animator on many projects, from "Alps no Shoujo Heidi" to "Hoshi no Oujisama Petit Prince"... |
