Can someone tell me what it is about this show that has it rated so much higher than the manga its sourced from? In the adaption did they change up the story or something? Or is there incredible animation? The lowish reviews of the manga is honestly why I haven't checked this series out yet . Also this is unrelated. But if you wanna try to convince me to watch this series go for it , because I'm actually quite interested just a bit busy and tired in life at the moment

The manga is not rated low actually, it has the same rating as the first season. However it wasn't that well-known before the anime aired. It's one of those cases where the popularity of the anime helped boost the source material. As for why this season has a way higher average: a variety of reasons that could be summed up to: sequel effect + hype both for this anime and the whole winter 2021 cour + two outstanding episodes in a row. Though the latter is subjective, it's also a bit of a consensus here.

The anime has some filler content, which I can't point exactly because I'm not reading the manga, but they also say that it's a pretty faithful adaptation. And it's not like it has incredible animation (it's serviceable, but movement and fluidity are not really the focus here), rather it has amazing aesthetics, use of color and lighting and background art.

The manga has the same rating as season 1, but season 2 is only rated higher than both of them because of the sequel effect, which is kind of a big issue with MAL (not to say it's not a good season though, because episodes 1 and 2 were really good). People who didn't like the first season probably won't watch the second, and people who did likely will. This lack of people who didn't like the first season means that it's mostly people who did watching it, making it easier to get a higher score.

The most noticable example of the sequel effect, to me, is probably Oregairu. Let me explain:
- Season 1 has a score of 8.07 with 937,482 members.
- Season 2 has a score of 8.28 with 685,890 members.
- Season 3 has a score of 8.49 with 351,061 members.
From season 1 to 2, the member count dropped by 27% but the score went up by 0.21. From season 2 to 3, the member count dropped even further by 49% but the score, again, went up by 0.21.

Manga and light novels are generally immune to this, as they usually only have one listing and aren't separated into parts. The only exceptions I can think of are Jojo no Kimyou na Bouken, Toaru Majutsu no Index, Monogatari and, as far as I know, Chainsaw Man will also be an exception to this when the second part of that releases. Even still, due to the member count for manga and light novels being generally lower than anime, the sequel effect isn't that common for manga and light novels that do have sequels/separate parts.

8.21 is lowish? You may have too high standards if that is low, lol :P

I'm just going to parrot everyone with it being mostly a numbers game and the effect of it being a sequel, but also, it's just good. If you have any love for cozy, SoL, CGDCT anime, this one is top tier.

Also, I will add, that sometimes things just work better with a little color and sound. An anime can surpass manga in these regards.

Some genres work much better in some formats. For example: Western genre works much better in live-action movies than in novels, while Mystery genre works much better in novels than in live-action movies.

Relaxing slice of life works much better in animated format than in manga one. Having good art, dubbing, animation and (if possible) photorealistic backgrounds is almost essential.

In this genre, the anime is always gonna be superior to the manga or the live-action. Actually, you can compare the anime first season with the live-action Yuru Camp, which is basically a live-action copy of the anime (shot by shot). The live-action version is kinda cute... but it's clearly worse than the anime.

Yeah I've read all your comments I would like to say sorry if I came off rude , obviously 8.21 isn't a low rating , my standards were high because I use this site to find new shows and filter through the mehs, I was just curious because for example the promised meverland is a manga with mediocre ratings , compared to the first season of anime , and I heard that was because not alot of people loved the ending. So its not like I thought the manga or show or anything like that were bad , I was just wondering if there was a divide between the community of manga readers and anime viewers cuz of changes or something. Or maybe the arts okay in the manga but superb in the anime. But what you all said makes alot of sense. I'm excited to check this show out! I'm glad someone mentioned it's a sequel or i probably would've watched a good portion of the second one without realizing lmao

I don't know about the manga, but I think this anime is really good, and from the visuals, ost, and the theme of this anime (camp) is very good. Especially for Slice of Life lovers, they must really enjoy this anime.

its a good anime. it makes my mood good. For example, I watched White Album 2 for romances, instead it gives my depression.

Give it a try @Troco72.

Hope you enjoy it. It's one of my personal favorites.

As for the manga/anime discrepancy, it mostly comes down to numbers bias. Manga gets way less numbers, and as mentioned, typically just a single entry on MAL for the entire manga. Yuru Camp (manga) is currently just a little over 9k members. Manga is a bit niche, and then throw SoL on top of it, and it gets even more niche. Yuru Camp season 2, comparatively, has 84k members, and most of them probably came in from the first season, meaning they at least liked it enough to continue. Those numbers mean that is can take more low scores and stay high, compared tot he much smaller numbers for the manga.
