THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
XL finds out a little more about HC and learns that this boy's name is San Lang. I love the way he says San Lang... It's so soft.

They talked a bit about the Crown Prince of Xian Le too and SL drew a portrait of the Crown Prince. It's not as detailed as the one in the manhua but it's very pretty too.

Other highlights in this ep include XL grabbing SL's hand! They shared a bed! XL combing SL's hair and ended up doing a side ponytail! They're so cute...

I also loved the subtle changes in SL's expressions. New viewers might not think much of them but novel readers understand the meaning behind the expressions. ;u;

Loved this ep! Gonna rewatch again heh.

cute and beautiful ep as always,
but, they changed even the ghost scene.. maybe because censorship again.
The actual ghost scene actually funny, and in the novel a lil bit creepy.
so maybe the rating will be PG 13 teen.

Chibi San Lang and Xie Lian soo cuteee, i want their nendos so bad.

San Lang being too scared to overstep any boundaries makes me wanna QAQ

How long do you think he practiced his pose/lines for the ox cart scene? I’m wagering at least 5 years. He must’ve also spent an hour on his makeup and his hair... only to have his hair done even more crooked by Xie Lian 🤣
(Funny thing is, he kept the crooked side ponytail for the rest of the day 🤣)

I was surprised that San Lang's tattoo was on his right arm rather than the left, plus I've gotten so used to seeing the manhua version that it being red kinda threw me off

Also the team translating "gege" as "bro" made my day lol

I really enjoyed this episode, it made me feel better just watching it. And can we talk about San Lang's red eyeliner!?!? I really like his eye makeup. And it's interesting seeing Xie Lian being such a cougar for San Lang!

IM NOT CRYING YOU ARE CRYING. Ah I cannot explain how much I loved this episode. It was everything I ever wanted from a TGCF adaptation. We got a Shy San Lang and everytime Xie Lian gave him a bit of attention it was so adorable and that they captured that so perfectly. I’m so happy with this series.

+300 ❤️❤️

This episode is beautiful 😍👌

Although I would rather think that, San Lang was probably blaming himself again for being useless as he needed to be saved by GEGE from falling off the cart. Not that, Xie Lian mind.

San Lang's mind is probably running amok going on a night date with GEGE which maybe explains why the sudden halt made him the Ghost King, almost fell off the cart. 😂

And of course, he loves the crooked ponytail tied by GEGE 🤣🤣🤣

Can't you see how happy he looks 😆👌

I have no words. I loved every single second. This is exactly what i was expecting from this donghua adaptation!

San Lang couldnt stop looking at Xie Lian, his full attention on him. When he almost fell off the cart i agree i also saw it as blaming himself for being so careless and making Xie Lian worry and save him.

The tattoo surprised me too, they didnt have to change the arm :/ but oh well, not big deal

This episode was so beautiful, the fluff, the hidden angst behind San Lang's actions, oh god and this is just the first chapters i can't wait to watch the rest

I enjoyed this episode a lot. Fluff always melts my heart. I plan on re-watching it a few times because of how cute they are while interacting. :)

Only thing I wished was a bit more impactful was the portrait scene.

Oh my GOD! I absolutely didn't notice this (I mean my typo, I obviously noticed it was supposed to be "luck"). I was still completely hyped up after watching, I guess my brain was doing it's own stuff... Even though it kinda works as well 😂😂😂

IMO this was the slowest episode so far - but at least we can say that it took time to build XL + SL bonding. Hope the next one will be more eventful.

Episode 5 is full of San Lang having panic attacks on the inside. Having a fragile maiden heart made his head stop working. But San Lang is really trying very hard. So we have to give him points where it is due.

This episode was full of Hualian sweetness. San Lang's death glare at the ghosts that warned if they dare touch his dianxia then he would end them.

It was interesting seeing San Lang's reaction when Xie Lian saved him from falling off the ox cart. I wonder if it brought back his memory of when dianxia first caught him as a child? Anyone notice the brief tgcf piano theme that played during that scene?

Chibi dianxia and San Lang at the hair scene! So cute. and that gege!!

The scene where San Lang says Xie Lian could have all his luck was beautiful. The lighting and the emotion you could sense from San Lang was so touching.

Anyway, pace wise, I hope this means we'll see Nan Feng & Fu Yao next episode and see how they react to our mysterious San Lang.

Spoiler involving the novel below

This week was kinda slice of life-ish and kinda slow paced~
But next week should be very fun UwU (Aka, the plot ball should begin rolling in about 2 episodes)
I can’t wait >.<

I'm a bit worried. If censorship is that extreme with blood and violence then how they gonna show Xie Lians past????
Like... There's enough splatter anime out there but that stuff is nothing compared to the things I've had to witness while reading this novel ngl

I like how the pacing slowed down to not rush interactions between San Lang and Xie Lian.

Also I see what you did there when they talked about a ghost's ashes ≖_≖

Man, they were so obvious. San Lang with flirting and Xie Lian with trying to crack him as a ghost. But I wonder if Xie Lian grabbing his hand at the beginning was a bad thing? San Lang seemed a bit pissed, maybe he didn't hide himself at that moment? hmmm
Another thing. The markings Xie Lian has, were those perhaps put on by the Emperor guy? San Lang seemed annoyed at the sight of them, and I wouldn't be surprised to see some WWX elements in Xie Lian.

Anyway I loved this episode as well. It felt like slice of life and I could totally do with a whole series being just like this, but I still can't wait for actual gore and blood to start again.
Xie Lian should be glad no one prayed for any 'dick' blessings. Went the old man mentioned the painting being goodlooking, I was almost sure someone would pray for that XD

This was an enjoyable episode, about as good as I could have expected. The dreamy ambiance created by the artwork and music is lovely and perfectly fitting. I like the lighthearted and slightly flirty vibe between Xie Lian and San Lang, even at this point when Xie Lian doesn't fully trust him. It seems even more obvious in the donghua that they're both trying very hard to maintain their composure with each other right off the bat, even though they have no chill. I think it's good that an episode is spent establishing a good rapport between them before moving onto the next part of the story (which is just beginning at the end of this episode).

I love the eye makeup, too! I think it suits him well.

I have to agree with this. It was portrayed much better in the manhua, and STARember's version of the portrait is just so pretty that the donghua's version is underwhelming (even if it's perfectly fine).

This was a good episode. The two leads play off of each other well and the art remains top-notch. I still do not understand the world or the rules regarding the gods and supernatural beings, which make it harder to connect with the story elements. I hope this will be solved as the season goes on, but I have my doubts.
