No matter how much they struggle, I have to admire Karasuno High's determation with their players. In particular for this episode, Nishinoya doesn't back down from the challenge and faces it head on.

Outside of the game, we also got some story narrative which I find to pretty realistic.

Kinoshita didn't get to do a game changing serve or w/e, but he redeemed himself by encouraging Nishinoya on to make a move. Sweet.

Miya twins were a real handful when they were kids.

Atsumu is an A+ setter. The overhand set from such a low position was incredible. Kenma was impressed and though Kageyama didn't outright say it, it seems like he was impressed, too.

Great episode again.

Nishinoya receiving Atsumu's serve overhand was awesome, especially his cheer afterward. I cheered too.

The twins sounds like they were quite the troublesome duo when they were younger. I love how Osamu was like "I'm going to be a nice guy" after seeing Atsumu.
Atsumu's set at the end was incredible. Kaegyama totally fired up after seeing that, great stuff.

Kageyama's on fire - nice nice nice.
And how Ukai respectfully applauded. Like it.

This match is so dead. I can excuse Shiratorizawa for going a full cour run despite it losing steam at a few times, since there was some genuinely good character writing moments and good production consistently, but this match just feels so much more boring and dull as a whole in comparison, even when ignoring the production mishaps from time to time.

The animation still feels a bit off but it was a good episode. Atsumu’s always saying the truth without thinking how much it might hurt the other person. He is the last person that I would like to interact with irl.

Nishinoya receiving that serve was cool.

Atsumu's set was also cool. Loved it when the coach Ukai applauded. It deserves all the respect.

So I'm pretty sure this was supposed to be some peak Haikyuu moment but I didn't feel like it so maybe I misunderstood and someone can correct me.

Kinoshita wanted to be a hero, to have that one moment where he is the star, the savior, and he blew his last chance to get that moment for this game.
Noya's scared of Atsumu's serve, and also of trying new things, and his grandpa told him that all the times he's scared of trying he misses an opportunity to learn and discover new possibilities.
The same applies for volleyball, he's not comfortable with over-hand receive so he focused on digs, but he trained over-hands because he wanted to add moves to his arsenal and he did that with Kinoshita's help. When Kinoshita shouted his name, he forgot he was scared and received Atsumu's serve flawlessly with an over hand, making Kinoshita the hidden hero of this moment.

So I got it right right ? Did I feel nothing because of the devastatingly boring presentation ? Like Idk this part of Noya pointing to Kinoshita looked pretty good, but everything before that was painfully average. Like I was soooo hyped to see what Noya was going to do since they were obviously building something up for him, but he just makes a step forward in a very dull shot ?

Other than that Miya twins part was really good, but I can't help but feel I was robbed one of the best moment of one of my favorite shows.

Furudate seriously knows how to write fleshed out characters. The flashbacks and developments this season are amazing.
Man, Kinoshita really got me there. Also Noya pointing to him and both reacting simultaneously, oh gosh... 😒
Noya’s flashback and the Miya Twins flashback were great. I feel like IG chose to work on the flashbacks rather than the match. Honestly given the circumstances— it’s a genius move by them. I did say in an earlier discussion that the match is what matters, but now I’m realizing the characters and their stories are more important and what get viewers invested into the match.
Atsumu is really something else, him and Osamu are literally a better version of Hinata and Kageyama. There are so many parallels between them.
There are officially three kings: Oikawa, Atsumu and Kageyama πŸ‘‘ πŸ‘‘ πŸ‘‘

This episode was so good that it made me forget the animation fails in the previous episodes.

The Miya twins’ story was especially well done. Those two deserve the world.

Nishinoya’s hair confused me tho.

Can second this. The episode is not anywhere near god awful by any means, but damn the visual and spiritual presentation lacks a soul altogether. Nishinoya’s moment was the high point for me personally, but everything else was basically a “going through the moments” slug’s pace.

this season has been a little off compared to all other seasons. The game is less on focus but the history of the players is more in focus. The timings where a thrill was expected, was somehow put off by adding past moments. I wish the game would come into focus .
Three sets and yet not thrilled by the game yet.

Ok. Good things first. This ep finally felt like a return to the haikyuu spirit. I may be biased but it had some genuinely good moments that got me teary. I loved the kinoshita x noya moment and that kinoshita finally felt like he did something. No matter how it was portrayed in the anime, I knew this bit of noya backstory would break me bc its a great principle to live by and is just so noya. Like why waste time being scared when there's so much to do and experiance. Wish i could live by that everyday. And i love that they showed the miya twins relationship more. That osamu had more 'potential' maybe but atsumu forght to keep up and ultimately got to his level, but through that he developed a love for the game that osamu just doesn't have to the same degree. Almost like he's more glad that he was able to push his brother than beat him.

Saying that, and don't get me wrong I loved the episode, but still the pacing of this whole series just seems off and I can't shake it. Everything seems to be so rushed. Like packed into this episode was all the kinoshita stuff, the kinoshita x noya moment, noya's backstory, them talking about suna's block, kageyama vs tsuki as blocker and then suna x tsuki, all in the first half, and the second was all the miya twins which wasn't connected to the first half at all. It's like they're structuring the series to pepper in moments from a ton of different storylines instead of taking an episode or 2 to do an mini storyline, or start one up, let it simmer in the background before addressing it at the end. It all feels a bit thrown together which is probably why I liked the nekoma break best so far, because it told a concise story. And because they keep flipping and changing, nothing can build so theres no tension. Like its the third set and im not holding my breath.

But this episode was better so I'm crossing my fingers and hoping things will continue to pick up.

There's not a lot of action but a lot of stories to be told by the players. We got to learn a little more about Nishinoya and how the Miya twins were back in the day narrated by Aran.

Good episode :)

One of the better episode this season, which goes to show just how mediocre this season had been as a whole. Some decent moments for Kinoshita and Nishinoya, but those ‘important’ character moments didn’t remotely stack up to many others we’ve seen. Backstory for the twins was fine. But it killed the match pacing and didn’t add anything that we didn’t already know. They’re a great pair and great players, we knew that already.

I’m just not feeling the excitement nor the tension that I felt during the first three seasons, and I’m really sad about that.

Agreed. Even though the episodes have had some really great character backstories it really has been a bore. This match has dragged out now almost the entire season.

I loved seeing Kinoshita in the spotlight for a little bit. I definitely teared up when he started getting down about his serve but he really did a great job. I only played volleyball as part of a summer camp for about a week so I know jack about it but his serve was good imo. It's unfortunate the other team caught on to it! I also loved seeing Aran and the Miya Twins when they were little. It was very adorable! I've caught up with the manga but I can't remember if there's anymore Inarizaki flashbacks but I hope so!

I do appreciate the flashbacks for character development but it's happening way too frequently and is taking away from what's suppose to be the highlight which is the match. There is no tension or feeling of importance in this match that the flashbacks feel meaningless.

First half with Nishinoya and Kinoshita was fantastic but man, that second half with the twins's long-ass flashback bored me to death.

By the way, seeing Atsumu act like an arrogant brat sure made me miss Oikawa. Now that's a charismatic brat I can care about.

Sadly, I agree. For me, the backstories/flashbacks in earlier seasons resonated more with the match activities and fed that energy back into the games. There were a few game/character moments during this match that I really enjoyed, yet my I found it really tough to stay engaged for the entire episode.

Another rivalry between Tsukki and Suna, but don't underestimate Tsukki.
Good to see a little of Nishinoya's past, I thought he was born with all the motivation and excitement.
And we have the competitiveness of the twins, even if one overcomes, the other already reaches.

I don't know why are people getting bored of these flashbacks. I am probably enjoying it more because as manga reader I know how much weight each backstories hold for the characters. These backstories really create a lot of layers for them. Also some people are not just getting it?? yes atsumu is a arrogant idiotic brat. But it's pretty noticeable how much dedication he has for his spikers and volleyball itself. Contrary to Oikawa who puts up a facade, atsumu has a honest no filter mouth which is both good and bad. If you also view Noya's flashback from philosophical stand point it holds a lot of value. Again this anime is not only about volleyball but also people's passion, overcoming different hardships and different ideals. As much as I love some pure volleyball action I want people to appreciate these things too. Like I said these different philosophies and ideals are what makes Haikyuu so special

Megane guy already thought of distracting that creepy guy, and not how it was seen.

A 2nd year wanting to be a "hero" (title of this ep.) but cut short.

To fear, huh. That 2nd year became a "hero" by helping Nobu's character out.

Twins when they were elementary school, w. dark-skinned guy. How they developed into a relations that fight each other but also trust each other.

Mamo's character is a superb setter that other teams approve. KajiKaji's character commenting that he cannot be one like him.

I honestly quite liked this episode. I really wanted them to highlight and show more of the twins, and I think that flashback served well in that regard. Their relationship as competitive siblings was cool to see, and how they always pushed each other to become better. Of course, that moment with Nishinoya and (bench warmer-kun, sorry forgot his name) was a nice tough. I'm expecting Atsumu to really turn it up next episode, and perhaps an Aran episode too. This episode felt more like Haikyuu to me than some of the other episodes. Looking forward to the finale.

another amazing episode!!!! :D
haha Hinata trying to imitate Suna's spike is great. I love how they continue to show Suna's head going sideways when he spikes. And I'm all here for the Suna and Tsukki's sass LOL
Kinnoshita..they showed things from his perspective really well: the shot of the net coming out of his eye, him looking at the ceiling as he walks away, closing his eyes in disappointment. The feeling of disappointing yourself and feeling like you've disappointed your team is a heavy burden to carry :(
It's interesting that fans always wonder what the role of these trio of 2nd years are. But Furudate continues to show us every member of the team is important in their own way. I've noticed people also mention how we don't really see parents in Haikyuu, but it's really cool that we do see figures who impact these boys in amazing ways even if they don't hold that 'traditional parental role' (Kita's grandma, Noya's grandpa, the siblings, etc.)
I love how it's also not just older figures, but peers who can inspire one another. I absolutely loved Noya and Kinnoshita's moment. imo it felt like we cut to the 'commercial break' too quickly, and I wish we were able to dwell on the emotional impact of that moment more. It reminded me of what Suga told Kageyama (when they were going up against Seijoh in S1) "The points made while I'm in play, and the points made while you're in play, are all points for Karasuno. I'll do my absolute best and you'll do your absolute best and this is how we'll defeat Seijoh" Volleyball is a team sport, the view from the top is seen with others, and the six who are stronger will remain on the court.
(also, who would've thought that our rambunctious and bold Guardian Diety was a scaredy cat when he was little!! little Noya is absolutely adorable!!!)
I think the balance focusing on Karasuno and Inarizaki was really well done this episode. We got an amazing moment with one pair on Karasuno, and another with a pair in Inarizaki.
I love that though Atsumu hit a really good spike, he was captivated by the idea that the setter helps the spiker hit the ball over the net. He continues to strive to set the easiest balls to hit for his spikers
also, the realistic brotherly interactions are awesome HAHA. and Suna whipping out his phone when the twins started fighting adds to the chaos haha, this team is great.

It was an ok episode. The more I see of the Miya twins, the more I like Osamu and dislike Atsumu.
Fetus Nishinoya is adorable lol.
Those flashbacks seem really dragged out though, in my opinion. Especially since they further delay the actual game. Which is not nearly as interesting as the ones against Aoba Johsai or SHiratorizawa, in my opinion.

Great episode. The Kinnoshita bit caught me a bit off guard but it was even better than if he had made that point. Chibi Nishinoya was so cute. :) And Tsuki/Suna was just gold as always. I hope they'll capitalize on that more before the match is over. I found the Osamu/Atsuma back story actually quite interesting because I did wonder why only one of them was selected for the All Japan Team. So mystery solved. :)

This is one of my favorite episodes of the season! Noya got some focus which I loved because we got to see him as a little boy plus we got to see Aran & the Miya twins as small beans too! The flashback to the Twins past was so cute!

I think it's so heartwarming that they are each other's motivation. They aren't just brothers; their rivals and best friends too ❀

I have so much respect for the pinch servers because of the amount of pressure they must face; they stand alone in front of the crowd in a way that the other players don't, and if they don't serve right then the burden of that fail falls squarely on them. With that in mind, Kinoshita shouldn't be so hard on himself!

-4th season in general focuses on different things compared to the previous 3.
I can't say it is bad, but maybe we feel this way cuz it now focuses on a lot of different characters and their backstories more and it feels like it is a bit more slow-paced. Maybe unconsciously, we just want to see some flashy actions from our duo just like in the previous seasons
-Yeah, sometimes animation is really off in some episodes.
-I really hope to see our little giant in action(pulling of sth amazing maybe) before the season ends ^^
