Ugh... Is this really a 'romance'? Is this really a 'comedy'? This thing is just too unsettling. Too much NTR.

So. I dropped it at episode 8, picked up again and had to drop it at episode 9.

Does anybody find this show 'enjoyable'? Personally, it fills me with unease. It's a masochistic NTR fantasy, to put it bluntly. Tell me which part of becoming someone's sloppy seconds and getting STDs from your 'husband', which he caught from shagging many other women, is 'romantic'? Is the author of this right in the head?

Are you expecting me to cheer for a romance with a polygamous asshole who has zero character, has concubines and pines for yet another woman, who cannot be his? Give me a break.

This is one of the most forced romances ever. The heroine has her own life, priorities, uses her special abilities to have fun, doesn't give a crap about her marriage. There is also no reason for this male so-called 'love interest' to feel affectionate towards the heroine. The marriage was forced upon him, he disliked Qian from the start, gave her a crappy mansion and generally didn't care or interact with her much.

Reading the manga, we actually learn that Prince Ye is actually a virgin. Having concubines was natural for all the men in high ranks, but he doesn't "enjoy their company"

Again, reading the maga, we learn that they have met each other before and fell truly, deeply, madly in love with each other. They don't remember it though....They will start remembering slowly through the story....

This donghua starts telling the story in the middle and should slowly unveil the background that brings sense to all the misteries and apparent plot-holes. Instead, it ends when the plot thickens....

You're talking about the manhua - not the donghua here. I don't care what elements the manhua has - I'm solely referring to the animated version here.
If a piece of work requires reading the source material to properly understand it, then it's a failed adaptation.

I get your point. That´s why I think a 2nd season would be good, because you only know this kind of stuff waaay ahead in the story.

There's is some serious issues going on about the violence towards women in this show and yes I agree that it can be unsettling compared to the world we live in now - but just like mentioned before, it probably used to be like this on that historical period, such as having concubines was a thing too. I can respect the fact that you don't like the show but don't tell other people to grow up because you don't seem to understand the tiniest bit of historical and cultural aspects of the whole thing.

Actually no. I'm not even at the last episode (I'm on 14/16) and yes, there is romance in the last episodes, and is already hinted about they knowing each other in the past too, but they don't remember it for some reason. It's not uncommon for the chinese royalty to have concunbines, and in romance anime, it's usually revealed that the main lead only treats them as maids or acquaintances, it's a often used cliche. There is defs not NTR here.

Oh, but yeah, there are some problems related to the way society was back then.

Is it romance, Yes but this develops alot later atleast for the female protag. The men seem to find her appealing early in.

Is it NTR? No but depends if you are looking at it from the perspective of the concubines.

Is it a comedy? Yes It definately is at some points. I personally found it funny at points.

Its all to do with the time period its set in. For those new to Chinese Period Drama settings, this will confuse alot of you.

But back then having more than one Wife was normal. Chinese didn't adopt the one spouse thing till around the founding of the republic and even than the rich and powerful still had an array of mistresses, no different than the rich and powerful of their western counterparts.

Enjoyment definately is different if you understand cantonese or chinese.

in one of the episodes there is a homage to old hong kong martial arts classics, with the ending omake all dubbed in Cantonese with both male and female voices getting a cantonese dub and a classic tv theme playing in the back ground.
