DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE. ---------------------------------------- Sugiura representing Hanamiya is facing off against tons of tough competitors in her way. She's kind of like the underdog. Another character to keep an eye on is Kumagai. Just by physical strength alone, she is a tough competitor imo. Gotta respect Sugiura for her efforts this episode though. |

| Konomi is gaining attention from the others seeing her skill despite being a beginner they took note of her. She performed really well now they question is how will she do in the future and how will they other schools view her. Watching some of the others climb was nice as well, especially the spider girl was interesting. |
| More character development is honestly the only way how I'd see this show to excel, other than the rock-climbing aspect. Nonoka Sugiura of the Hanamiya team proving to be a worrywart in the continuing series of rock-climbing problem-solving prelims and strong competitiors. Be it speed, strength or tactics pertaining to bouldering, the talent pool sure picks up by the numbers. At this point, the puzzle solver Konomi just resembles an OP character, to which I don't like this development, especially in such a shallow story like this. Besides, the logic of stepping on walls and NOT the actual stepping stones don't quite match, and I'd be doubtful if the mediocrity of the average production team ever checked this through. The panning camera shots of the girls this episode are eye candy though, that's no mistaking it, but I'd feel overbearing about using the same animated sequences over and over again for limited cheapness. Well, for first-timers like Konomi, they got lucky, but not so much for Nonoka who fell short of her efforts due to her physical limitations. But with that said, for all the effort she gave, I give a thumbs up to her valiant spirit of persevering this far, even if her results are unsatisfactory. Yotsuba looking out for her is such a swet moment, and there's no turning back for the remaining 3: Konomi, Uehara and Yotsuba. The only way to redeem Nonoka's efforts is by going deep in the competition. Genuinely good episode. |

| It's kinda hard to believe spider climber even fell once. Well climbing competition started and ended in only one episode lol. The show must go on and what's done is done so Nonoka is out...I really feel bad for her, she tried her best it was too bad that she was short. Props to Konomi for qualifying for the semi finals! Good episode :) |

| I love how realistic this sport is compared to others in the sense that not all characters are winners. To succeed you need to work hard and sweat your body weight out, and even then there are difficulties. Like the fact that even the spider girl fell. Just because someone is an "ace" and are considered the top for their sport, doesn't mean their perfect. very nice episode, well put together. A lot happened, but it wasn't too overwhelming or fast. The prelims are over in one go :) 5/5 |

| Fucking rando's in the ass raw dogging it, in other words it felt like I was watching randoms climbing lolz, not enough spotlight on the main people.. but yeah there is just too much that goes into each climb and for each character so its understandable. |

| Nonoka failed :( That stupid routesetter pervert must be had a grudge against a girl climber with his unfairness choice. Damn you, that made my little girl cry! Ah, at first the backstory kinda felt weird. So thats why its put on the first sequence like that. Because i really need to fell a pity for Nono as she got eliminated in the prelim stages, pretty early. Because of her unlucky fate facing all of that difficult routes for a shorty girl like her. Please don't gave up, and cheer on already, girl! You still had some more tournament to shine! About Konomin, yeah no surprised. The 20th placed was so understandable to her standard. I hope she could shut up that ballerina in the previous one. But so far they didn't mention her reaction after Konomin reach the semifinal. So lets see the next one, then. How far all girls could be against every climber on the rank .... |

| Great episode, Was anxious for Nonoka the whole episode. And she didn't make it to the top 20 :(( that is sad. Though congrats to Konomi for impressing the other competitors and making it to the top 20. Muscle girl was hilarious though lmao, and the other characters that were focused on were great too. There is always next time Nonoka-san, the route was just not fair. Leave it to Konomi, Jun and Yotsuba :((. |

| Konomin reaching top 20 is very good considering she's a first year and the climbers she is up against as well. Felt bad for Nono, that route felt kinda rigged imo. The way how easily Chinari solves the problem and uses her great height to reach the finish hold without using the other holds. |

| Let me guess, Fujita used to be in track and field before shifting to rock climbing. Too bad for Nono, she just didn't make the prelims.. Ya know when that commentator with a wired hair do says that Height can also be a disadvantage ,,,,well, he's very stupid cu'z in rock climbing both having upper body strength and height were an advantage . Shees all that bouldering show off were just too lame , realistically rock climbing competitors don't do all those kinds of showy shenanigans ... once they reach the top they go down immediately , they don't hang around and be show offs, they do on the ground... |

| Man, wish I could receive hugs from Sayo every time I feel sad :/ Now seriously, I'm honestly surprised. Against all my doubts, this series managed to make this first "official" competition feel rather thrilling and interesting to watch. Not to mention they handled the whole deal regarding Nono's lack of height in a rather believable way as well. It sucks that this time, the routes were made while only having tall climbers in mind and I genuinely felt bad for her but as Sayo said, there will be always a next time. Now on a happier note, I'm glad to see Konomi managed to rank among the best 20 and impress some pro-climber girls in the process. Seeing the other girls' different techniques was also rather nice but my god, muscle girl Kumagai sure was the one who left the strongest impression in my case xD Honestly hope I can see more of her in the following episodes. |

| Easily the worst episode so far. From the first scene you can tell where Nono's story is going and it feels extremely forced. This show had to have at least one of them fail and it was obvious she was the oddwoman out, much too obvious. I think her shortness inferiority complex might have been mentioned before but bleh, still felt so unnecessary and artificial. For such an upbeat and positive show through 4 episodes too. I wasn't planning on commenting in any threads until the finale, but this episode annoyed me so much I had to vent. I was gonna give this a tentative 7, but it has to be at 6 now. Maybe by the end it can climb (heh) it's way up to that 7. Regardless, disappointing. |

| Bouldering looks fun. This episode could be nicer if they actually animated the climbing parts fully instead of just using still cuts here and there :/ And this is again my obligatory statement on the lineup of eccentric characters: I‘m getting dizzy. I honestly can‘t keep up with the fact that everyone, even including the route designer this episode, are over-the-top types lol. They‘re also setting up Konomi to be an OP newcomer. That‘s a staple in sports anime but idk, feels kinda forced in this episode. |

| I was worried this anime was going to more of fanservice and slice of life rather than getting serious on actual rockclimbing. I'm glad they showed focus on the height issue here (I wish i could give her a hug) tho like many others here, wish they could've shown more of the actual bouldering and solving of boulders. maybe its bc its only the prelims so its more of introducing us into bouldering competition. Hope to see more of the action in semifinals and finals! |
| there is a girl in the spider team who is also short.. but she is in top 20. I guess Nono is just unlucky.. find a wall small people cannot climb. |
| i feel bad for Nonoka ending-up in 23rd place while newcomer Konomi went up to 20th place... being short really puts you to a disadvantage huh... well there are saying that failure only gets you stronger! lolz 4/5. |

| The heck is wrong with this show? Honestly the worst episode so far.Zero tension for a tournament. We aren't even into five episodes and we get random characters each with their own catchphrase and nicknames.I do love some shounen sports but this show is trying too hard.Rival schools and characters on which you have no information or depth.They are introduced for the sake of it. What happened to Konomi's puzzle gimmick?They done with it. The only reason I watch this show is forripped girls.Please give us more ab shots. |

| Poor Nono, as someone who is also incredibly short I can kinda relate to her. That first route was really unfair against her and probably dropped her confidence even further, really contradicting what the guy said about being short is not a disadvantage. |
