I've seen glimpses of Naruto growing up but back then i didn't really like it. I don't usually like Shounen or Action however, I feel like that's starting to change.

Naruto is a pretty long show for me & if I were to watch it I would most likely skip all the fillers especially if they're bad, so if anyone can tell me which episodes are fillers that would be very much appreciated. Plus why is the purpose of fillers anyway? especially ones which are 40 episodes long. Comedy is another genre I don't usually enjoy unless its done really well & I've noticed it as one of the genres included for Naruto on MAL.

I feel like some shows are popular due to being really good & others are just popular due to being something many people have known since their childhood days and it means a lot to them. Naruto seems to be the latter tbh.

Personally I haven’t watched Naruto, but based on my friends’ anecdotes, it doesn’t seem to be worth watching. The utter quantity of filler episodes Naruto employs evidently setbacks the series. I generally don’t watch much shounen , but some of the more revered “long” shounen shows include One Piece and HxH.

I would suggest to check out those two if you haven’t already.

If you’re searching for another “long” show that isn’t bound to the genre of Shounen, I’d suggest Monster.

“In order to protect popular franchises from running out of material, studios often created padding to ensure shows like Bleach would not have to go on hiatus or even be canceled. Filler is what happens when an anime either catches up with its source material or is expected to in the near future.”

- a google explanation as to the purpose of filler.

It makes sense as to why filler exists, but it still detracts from the experience.
Enjoy!

Naruto Kai is a fan project that recuts the whole show without any filler that you may be interested in. In terms of how worthwhile a watch it is, I can't say because I fell off the show super early, but there's a handful of fantastic fight scenes that are worth a watch on their own.

If you're thinking of getting into a shounen action, My Hero Academia is a great start. It's way shorter, well paced (no filler), and has consistently good action.

I also second the Hunter x Hunter recommendation, though I'm a bit biased as that's in my top 10.

With Naruto it can be a hit or miss, I personally wasn't too interested with the original series due to all of the filler in it. I didn't find it appealing and there's the fact of all the filler, yet I never skip episodes so it took me ages to sit through it all. If you don't mind watching episodes that don't really matter towards the overarching story or if you just skip them entirely its definitely worth the watch.

I just finished Naruto Shippuden today, it took me close to a year because I kept getting bored from all of the filler so the same thing applies with this as well as with the original series, if you can sit through filler or just skip it then it is most definitely worth the watch.

Naruto is worth watching if you've watched it during your childhood. I'd say its still a decent-good watch if its your first time watching. For an enjoyable watch, skip the fillers and dont watch the shitshow Shippuden.

I can definitely get why Naruto gets a bad rep for all of its glory. Heck, when I was in high school quite a few years ago that was one of the topics that would pop up given we were a sort of anime nerdy group from different grades. We didn't actually have a club though. There were no formal anime clubs at school, but the excitement one day I had making what would be at the very least an acquaintance of mine after he told me about anime was sort of furthered in our group. Were we qualified as die-hard critics to rate Naruto as objectively as possible? Probably not. One thing is for sure: I am a die-hard Naruto fan. He was my hero. Before you guys say anything like "its not worth the watch", "how could you", I'd just like to gently point to the fact of the very powerful message that is believing in someone: Naruto believed in Sasuke. Now, that may seem insignificant to some, but as a believer in a higher power, that simple fact has a lot of implications.

And well for the sake of brevity, when you talk about anime specifically after being stripped to its core, perhaps you run it to sort of a minefield of issues that don't always carry well across the cultures. Or maybe that's why you like anime like Naruto; the time that it devotes to all of its very nuanced and diverse characters...watching the show growing up was unlike anything I had ever experienced. It had the chops of a great show localized excellently for westerners while still maintaining its integrity, though this would be a point of dissension for some. Regardless of that, I will still think back to what it meant to me. A good replay value for all of its hundreds of episodes? Even later on in the franchise with Boruto there are fillers. But it gets better as the story evolves through all that time. Naruto movies: packs one heck of an epic punch and make you realize why you just gotta see the show.
