So I just finished watching Higurashi no Naku Koro ni and it’s sequel Kai, and there are a few questions I have that I don’t think were ever answered?
Spoilers ahead obviously.
1. In the “Curse Killing” arc, ie when Satoko’s uncle comes back and Keichi murders him, I don’t think it was ever explained how he came back to life?
2. I remember in a few arcs, the doctor supposedly commits suicide - how does this happen and why? (I think this was answered but I may have forgotten).
3. In at least one of the arcs, it’s mentioned that Oishi has gone missing - were we ever given an explanation on that?
4. In the “disaster awakening” arc, when satoko is the sole survivor, when Oishi is “interrogating” her after, he mentions that Rena’s body was never found among the massacre victims but that her bloodied hat was found elsewhere and Oishi believes that Rena was trying to relay a message with this. Do we know what exactly was happening here? Why was Rena not murdered with the others, and what was the message she was trying to leave?
5. Following the “Atonement” arc where Rena held the entire school hostage, she was held at the police station so she managed to escape the massacre. But Rika still died - so how is it that the Rena of that universe, who lived to her 30s or 40s, managed to survive that long without losing her sanity? I thought that without Rika, Rena would have killed herself or completely lost her mind. Even though she’s clearly not completely mentally stable, she’s not quite as unstable as I would expect either.
6. Was Keichi a murderer before he moved to Hinamizawa?.... The whole point is that he’s meant to go from a normal boy to a murderer because of the influence of Hinamizawa syndrome. But with this revelation we find out he’s already a murderer (or at least has very violent tendencies) and idk it loses impact and it didn’t even make sense to me considering the freedom his parents give him and stuff.
Furthermore, this never gets alluded to again as far as I know. Is this a “backstory” for Keichi that only exists in the atonement arc or is this supposed to be a part of his very character? Throughout the whole story?
7. This may be a silly question but I don’t fully understand why in the various arcs Keichi, Rena, Shion etc succumbed to the syndrome while Rika was still alive. Like isn’t the whole point meant to be that her existence STOPS that from happening?
8. In the beginning of the final arc, Rika and Hanyuu convince someone (Keichi’s dad?) to move to Hinamizawa and I don’t understand this because firstly why do they even need to convince him? Keichi moves to Hinamizawa in nearly every universe anyway (Kira mentions once that a couple of times he didn’t - but that means that thousands of times he did. So......why the need to show them convincing him of something that nearly always happens anyway?
And secondly the way they never showed his face and made him look mysterious or something made me think there was more going on and more relevance to his dad...but that never happened. Am I the only one who thought that was weird?
9. Sorry my questions are so disordered I’m writing them as they come to me. In the spirited away arc - What was with the needle Keichi found in the food Rena have him? Also, were Rena and Mion actually going to harm him or was that all his delusions?
I probably have more questions but my mind has gone blank. I’ll ask more once I remember |
