----------------------------------------
The exhaustion was showing, Zero carried twenty one lives on his back without much appreciation, he was used. Moreover, as to show how truly altruistic the lad is, he was grateful that everyone made it. Anyone would feel dejected after realizing how hard it would be to continue forward when all that seemed to await them was being a pawn, win or lose.

But, Shirube reimbursed Zero's will with a suicidal plan to rob an evil, rich overlord blind by abusing a loophole to reach a grandiose ambition of becoming a king. Very Gin to Kin. These kids got some big hearts and lofty ambitions. That is the hope that Zero needed, Mitsuru's final wish may be achievable after all.

There were two ideas that seem to come up often within this text which did once more.

The first is the notion of putting one's life on the line, typically for a good cause although it can be seen more generally from those doing so for greed. Regardless, this idea was set up explicitly in the first chapter, the Righteous Thieves having resurrected from death, and ready to face it once more. Shirube fits right in and gave us the line: "The only ones who could change the world throughout history have always been the young who were ready to put their lives at risk!" In hot-blooded shounen fashion, it seems like this sentence could be a thesis statement for the manga.

The second is the notion of the worthy. Before Quarter Jumping was established, Zaizen declared three types of people:
  • The determined individuals, always aiming to be king as the most likely to succeed.
  • Those who do not have what it takes but have been blinded by greed, and have forgotten their place.
  • Those lucky enough to win but will meet their doom when their luck runs out. Lacking superior talents and being superstitious, will rely only on luck and can only aim to be #2.

This is definitely interesting, because, like most Fukumoto villains, there is some truth to it. We can likely separate the characters into these three categories. Perhaps into the kings, the greedy dead weight, and the true supporters, although the third category isn't clear to me. Something like: Zero/everyone else/Itakura? Even in the end here, while forming a bond of respect with Shirube, the talk about proving worth emerges. I'm not exactly sure what to say about this, but it seems to be an important idea so I wanted to address it here.
