THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
This episode showcases the Furin team preparing for the Japanese National Youth Baseball tournament as they sort out their positions and try and improve on their abilities for that competition (which they're going at just for experience).

It does look like they're going for the Anita-Mutsuko battery for now with Daigo still being captain and taking the left field. I don't know if that's the long term thing just yet so I'll see how that plays out. Sakura clearly can pitch but not quite yet dominate the competition, so hopefully she and the rest can gain some experience from this.

I'm surprised by how much Akira has been treated as the 'butt of the joke' in this show given how I thought he'd be a rival to Daigo, but man he's far from it. I'm expecting big things from him once he gets better in his pitching in a new stage of his life, along with improving his fitness.

Overall, a very good episode in establishing spots for the players as well as general chemistry and understanding between the team. There's bound to be conflicts but this episode addresses them and tries to make it easier for the team to get along and be prepared to take on the upcoming tourney.

Excited for those future games.

Thought it was an alright episode. Not sure that I like that Daigo is not the catcher. I mean that's supposed to be his position right? I don't know why he's so ok with giving up his position so carefree like. As the main character it seems quite odd that the focus has really shifted away from him this season.

Judging from the opening, there are a lot of visuals with Daigo still being the catcher, so I'm sure there's more to the tale with him and his position.

Don't forget Anita is supposedly a great catcher who played for Yokohama Little in the quarters of Nationals...

It's really interesting how Daigo's personality differs from Goro's yet he still considerably grew as character compared to first season. I like Anita and her interactions with others. It seems that in the next episode we will see Goro, Sato and other old characters again, which is very cool.

I guess the thing that Anita supposedly was the catcher, but we are going to discover that training and playing in a game is very different.
That's my guess at least
I really really want to see Mutsuko and Daigo as a battery

I really don't like this "Major formula" where the main character is always in the underdog team. I hope it gets better.

I mean to be fair, if there isn't underdog drama for the team, it's not exactly the most entertaining show in the world seeing them steamroll everyone for 25 episodes. Especially since after seasons, there's always timeskips.

No, Major is more extreme because every season this happens. It's not like the others sports animes where the underdog team becomes a strong team.

What I really want to see is the main character, maybe the next season, in a good team where he really can grow. This because the anime is telling you that he is not a genius, so it doesn't make sense to make him carry a weak team like Goro did.

This is clearly not a weak team tho, they already have a few good batters and a potential great pitcher.

The numbers they announced out loud were the batting order, where players that hit often are in 1, 2, or even 3, players that hid hard are at 3, 4, 5, and 6, and lastly, players that are average go in 7, 8, and 9. This ain't fixed though, some teams do stuff with their line-up.

The shirt numbers that were given out later have to do with positions, 1 for the ace (pitcher), 2 for the catcher, 3 for first base, and so on.

I don’t understand why Daigo is being so passive and being the number 9 batter. People who bat last get less at bats and are meant for the worst players. I guess he wants to catch the other team by surprise and show them he can actually hit but I would rather him be more aggressive. Also Daigo needs to follow his dream again and pitch. He doesn’t have to pitch lits out. As a pitcher if you can trick batters with good breaking balls like sliders, changeups, or 12-6 curves you can give any batter a hard time. I wish I could see more arm strengthening workouts from him because I want him to also be a pitcher

They seem to really like the tire training, don't they? Sawamura would probably relate to Nishina in a way.

As usual, what a great episode. It's on pace so far for me to be the best season yet, along with the initial Major anime.

i actually didn't expected for daigo to be in the bottom list, and more of that, to give up that easily his position he worked so much on it, but then i thought that he also trained by satou for being field player, so it actually made sense for me the daigo is may not be the genius pitcher, but he can do multiple position otherwise.

i understand to nishina hear, but i think his time to shine is pretty soon.

anita is much more bearable now, i love her development.

It shocks me to think Daigo is Goro's son as he seems a lot smarter (gotta make up for not inheriting those baseball talents as established in s1) than Goro at his age with the latter having set some ridiculous goals like beating powerhouse Kaido with a team full rookies.
