In season 1, it was about Rei overcoming his depression and anxiety. That was clearly displayed with his family disputes, living alone in his apartment, flashbacks, etc. And it was carried through to season 2 as well. However, in season 2, we were also dealing with Hinata's bullying arc.
Fruits Basket didn't have, or if it did have a clear conflict, it just wasn't the main focus.
