The east west battle just ended… Right?! Despite west having all the advantage in the world, we knew the second Fukumoto started to narrate about the illogical world of gambling, that Harada was done for. That screamed the final move of the game. Harada, a man who has previously preached intuition to Hiroyuki while mocking his reliance on logic, fell to reason here. He took the natural solution, he had wiggle room and he used as I’m sure any of us would have. But that was the last chance he had. He changed his wait and didn’t risk everything with the 2-sou that would have passed. While sealing away and letting the victory pass him, it rebounded and came to east. It was spectacular. A way to end it all for sure. Ten held through with that riichi, he barreled forward, embracing difficulty, and left the realm of reason. The narrator described it as direct logic which falls straight to the heart.

This makes me think of the signalling the two teams made. From my understanding, Ten and Hiroyuki used simplistic signals as to keep intuition in the game, to not rely on too much information, they refused to rely on reason to that degree but west had intricate signals to know everything. Further, this yet again makes me think of how gambling relates to Fukumoto’s greater philosophies and how it’s such a perfect choice for him to write about. I think mahjong for Fukumoto and to use his own language here, "the illogical world of gamblers", is a microcosm of life. To be defeated through flawless logic, a realm of the unreasonable. One where you have to follow your heart and live by your own principles, which is exactly why I think Akagi is the demon of mahjong.

I loved how Ten didn’t celebrate with the others as he won his hand. He was as serious as ever and he knew Harada was going to try something. Just as Harada didn’t prematurely celebrate earlier, Ten didn’t either. I dig that. Phew!!

Wow, the way Harada just lost his chance by playing it safe was nothing short of poetic! Though in real life it'd probably still be better to do it the safe way lol

I am slightly confused as to why this does not settle it... Sanshoku + chanta with 2 dora shouldn't cause Hiroyuki to fall below 0, even if there are Ura-Dora, right? Or is Hiroyuki dealer? But even then it shouldn't be a problem... I think. I am too lazy to look it up lol
