This chapter was insanity. While we know we couldn’t end it with east wiping the floor with west, this still blew me away. Harada was in tenpai and bravely chanced everything, playing into Ten’s hand, but it would not have been a clear mahjong requirement nor would it be enough to wipe Harada out. From there, it was clear that he let Harada survive for the time being as to sharpen his blade. Further, it created a net around Harada. It was not a chanta Ten was waiting on anymore if Harada were to play in, but if he drew one of Hiroyuki’s tiles it would be with the help of his ally, and Hiroyuki was ready for a sanshoku. They had every possibility covered, it makes sense why reason would promote this. But it only sparked the madness of Harada as he continued on his path, refusing to follow logic, rejecting a win on his part, holding out for the sanankou and daring Ten to win. Ultimately, Harada’s tenacity paid off. His pissed off inner monologue about Ten being a moron taking him lightly, that he’d regret this, came true through his persistence. It makes me think of the feats east went through to ensure that sanankou. Harada will fight for it too. Thus leaving west with what, one more yaku, a sanshoku, until the end of this night? The end of this battle?!

I like the blacksuit commentator for west, he’s cute. And with him came a powerful line at the end. Normal theories are not how this game flows, time and space is distorted and reason isn’t the way one will win. It is rather, as we saw with Harada, to obstinately force your way ahead through the field of battle. Something that makes me recall the line “moving forward while embracing difficulty”.

Lastly, I like how I think Harada’s face was one of relief when he won here, it wasn’t some maniacal explosion of emotion, it was a moment of realization and relief.

Wow, Harada managed to pull through! You know the manga and its characters are great when you can even cheer for the bad guys winning haha! Ten definitely made a mistake there. Sure, he wouldn't have ended Harada with a ron there. But he suspected he was trying to force a san-ankou anyway, and it was a perfectly good spot to kill that hand. Plus their own yaku are pretty easy to pursue in future hands, and they would have put Harada really on the defensive with that few points left.

This match is quite exciting!
