You need to watch the 3 ''recaps'' movies (they are more of a retelling than recaps) before this one because they went in a different direction in these and this movie is a sequel to the trilogy.

(anyway, from what i've heard)

Fukkatsu no Lelouch will not be connected to the series. It's connected to the movies.

It's a sequel to the recap movies.The original anime and it's ending has been left untouched.

code geass got 2 different timelines now the first timeline is the TV series while the second timeline is this movie series where Shirley is alive and Lelouch is really confirmed to be dead and just been resurrected

I wouldn't call it 2 timelines. I mean it's the same timeline that you can make whatever you want from... you can say the code theory is right and use the r2 cannon as argument or you can just use the movie as answer. Just like full metal alchemist

Shirley is dead on the TV series timeline while on this movie series timeline she is alive

I didn't want to point it out in case of spoilers, but deg did it anyway, so... Shirley is alive in the movie, she's dead in the series.
Hence, they're not cannon.
End of story.

And then again, the directors said it as well. Fukkatsu no Lelouch is the sequel of the movies, not of the series.
