Well...it is time to deal with a serious elephant in the room.

(Disclaimer...I am not a SJW, or whatever they call it...I even enjoy Goblin slayer FHS).

So here is this show Uchi no Maid ga Uzasugiru....which is a show about a girl and the maid her dad employs to look after her.

As is typical of these kind of shows...the maid is always affectionate to her charges...nothing new there...except that in this show we have some additional red flags.

In episode 1...youngTsubame! tells her kohai who has a crush on her...that she isn't interested in girls who have seen their periods.

(OK...I know what we call such folk...but let's move on).

Episode 3: Tsubame imagines herself married to Misha...and she promises to love Misha even when she starts seeing her priod.

(Did we just see an episode where a character is thinking of child marriage?!)

Recently there has been a lot of news stories about historical child abuse. And as someone who has had to treat abused children (in my career in medicine )...while I enjoy this show...I find the pedo bits a bit disturbing.

I mean this is a show about an adult woman who is basically a pedophile.

What is even painful is that IRL...people with this kind of disorder actually actively seek out jobs/positions where they can hurt children (jobs like child caretakers for example)

So while we laugh about this show...let's also remember that in real life...this is not okay. In real life...this hurts people.

Anyway...I will finish this anime. But....with a heavy dose of dissimulaiton sort of.

Yeah. The moment things go beyond Tsubame having insane fantasies (and the typical anime style hyjinks that naturally follow) and trying to actually help Misha move on from her mother’s death, this is going in the dropped 1’s pile. Everyone in the show seems to be on the same page that Tsubame is a weirdo who needs to be under close watch, but after watching Happy Sugar Life, I don’t trust shows to actually stick to their portraying a character with pedophilic tendencies as wrong.

I heard that the show is actually miles more tame than the source material, though, which is concerning to say the least.

As we all know from feminists, only man can be sexists, pediphiles and rapists, so it's okay.

As soon as I saw, "she's a lolicon and in charge of a kid" I basically booked it out of there. People think women can't be as horrible of pedos as men, even with the efforts of people advocating for victims rights.

tl;dr - In context this show is creepy and even disturbing to some, just because there's character to them.

To be fair it is a bit creepy even if you're into Lolis/Shotas. The maid is a bit too obsessed with it and I found it a little bit too disturbing. Its not about lolicons, its about taking it too far. In this case it is just from episode 1.

I get its fiction, and trust me I definitly know fiction is different from reality. But just like Incest it can definitly be uncomfortable or have a feeling of uneasiness.

Its simply the fact that the urges are being put on display. How is this any different from hentai you ask? Well, the difference between the two vary. In this, we have characters with actual story so you somewhat feel for them. In an hentai there's usually something generic to put in the back of your mind, you more or less never think about it.

Of course there's no reason to put this show on a crucifix. This is a work of fiction. While it may be disturbing, everyone must remember this is not real. I mean come on, people have been on the case of Video Games and trying to connect parallels to violence irl.

this is a seinen series, where the primary target audience are males in their late teens and older
which means whatever happens in a show are primarily to satisfy that target group and make them more likely to buy their merchandise (manga, bluray, etc).

the jokes might seem strange and even "pedophilic" (some would disagree with this word), but for better or worse, this has been the norm for many seinen series for quite a while.
You can buy lossless digital music from your favorite Japanese artists on https://ototoy.jp/.
The songs are all DRM-free and you can re-download your purchased albums as you wish.
Show your support to your favorite artist if you can!
ps. if you are looking for Japanese albums, you have to search it in Japanese (not romaji). Just copy and paste the name.

Yes, we got to save them all!!!!!

On a more serious note, I created the thread because while I enjoy the show, I do feel uncomfortable with the jokes about pedophilia....

(In my real life job,..I am a general practice physician... one of the saddest things I had to do was write a medical report for law enforcement in my country..for a nine year old child that had been sexually abused by an older teenager.)

Still, the show does have a lot of redemptive factor in it...so am styaing with it for now.

Back to saving the Animated Lolis! (Save the Animated Loli Foundation...sounds like a good name for a high school club).

I'm glad you're in a position to do something. And, indeed pedophilia is horrific and ruins lives. Times have changed and overall I'm glad that sex crimes are more acknowledged now, than they have been in the past.

You seem to understand that the rape in Goblin Slayer is ok because it is a fictional work and it is depicted as immoral but can not accept pedophilia in this show even though it's also fictional and portrayed as immoral ?

It feels like complaining that Tohru (dragon maid) promotes the extermination of the human species, don't you think that all the arguments in favor of goblin slayer applys here too ?

(Also, I'm a "SJW" and I'm not against the GS thing, just like a every single "SJW" I know, it isn't cool to just act like everyone that falls on that label, or on any other, are the same.)
heh.

I kind of agree with Bob-o Dominador on this one. Most people, like me, are probably fine with it because the way the show portrays it: pedophiles as inappropriate and gross, and the fact that it’s hilariously crazy and obviously fiction.

Plus, the maid even acknowledges that pedophilia is wrong and knows the bounds with the law. Although she might be pushing it a bit. The police even step in at certain points, making it pretty reassuring. Every character knows the maid’s a freak. Even if slightly disturbing, I don’t think she’ll get very far when the whole world doesn’t agree with her antics. Nothing illegal for sure.

Also the back and forths between Misha and the maid are amusing as hell to watch. The show’s premise is so absurd and the maid is so unrealistically crazy that it’s too funny to take seriously as a work of fiction. Just my thoughts though.

T H I S.

Good lord, there's been way raunchier jokes in other seinen anime anyways.

People need to understand that a JOKE is still just a JOKE even if you don't personally find it amusing. The show is obviously set up so that her attraction to the child is nothing more than a joke. In fact, it makes her look bad on purpose. Not only that, the anime actually had MULTIPLE chances to show the little girl's panties in a traditional anime fanservice shot, but did not. That actually makes this show, already, a lot less """problematic""" than others that feature under 18 girls.
People are so stupid. If you don't think a joke is funny, I get it. Just shrug and go inside your head "Eh, I thought that was distasteful... it's okay though. I'm sure other people probably think it's funny though. Now I'll go find something I like to laugh at and let other people enjoy what they enjoy." and that should be the end of that problem right there. It's that easy.

Yeah, lolicons, pedos, whatever, they’re bad. I don’t support them. This show doesn’t either. It’s not glorifying it, it’s not making lolicons look good, tsubame gets in trouble for things she does. Yeah, this show still is a little on the weird and creepy side, I also am a little eehhhh while watching it, but it’s not promoting pedophilia by any means. It’s supposed to be comedic.

It's a comedy anime, so it can't be taken seriously. Though I agree that in some instances, this show tends to take the comedy too far, and even I, despite liking lolis, and being huge fan of lolicon parodies, find it occasionally disturbing.

Alas, this kind of thing is nothing new in anime, and I do not think it's wrong. It is a fiction, after all. It should be used it to explore whatever topics people want exactly because it's fiction, and therefore doesn't hurt anyone, nor does it make more likely for anyone to attempt such things in real life. This argument could be spinned to cover anything controversial, be it excess brutality, rape, or whatever else (Berserk et al.).

And I think that it's much better if one can fulfill such desires in fiction, than potentially having to do so in RL, for people with such desires. And we others can just enjoy interesting story, comedy or whatever else people may like about this, or any other show covering controversial topic. And if someone doesn't like it, they can just drop it and move on with no issues. I myself was considering potentially dropping this, alas, last episode as good enough to keep me interested for now.

The lolicon complaints are really overblown. Tsubame might be obsessing over Misha to the point of being borderline creepy, but she is genuinely helping her in leading a better life. Not only that, but Tsubame also receives consequences for her fetish, such as souring her relationship with Misha or being taken away by the police. It's clear that Tsubame's kink is a negative characteristic that's meant to be derided by the viewers.

The highlight of this anime has always been Tsubame trying her best to be a substitute mother to Misha. If you're focusing too much on Tsubame's lolicon fetish, then that's your problem.

Who knows? You ever think it works both ways? Maybe those people are just stupid and unable to think proper. Lies do not cease to be lies because they become fashions, after all.
At least this way it's easier to spot the halfwits.

You can't claim sanity when it's just you and a bunch of animetards online who think as you do. To any actual sane human being out there, you're the weird one for thinking paedophilia is ok as long as it is fictional. Thinking the rest of the world is insane while just you are the only sane one is, well, delusion at its best. Maybe you're really a chuunibyou?

No, it's pretty obvious that the ones who don't understand what a drawing is and think fiction is the same thing as reality are the insane ones. But you can keep being wrong if you want. No one is right 100% of the time.

So you claim you are not a SJW, but just now you enforced your morals or not?
Are you that afraid that there are pedophiles that hurt children watching a Anime where the maid who is a lolicon clearly stated she won't ever do anything against the girl will?
There some people that get pissed at their horrible bosses and sometimes have those involuntary thoughts about wishing them dead, should we watch out for them cause they are killers too?
You enjoy Goblins/animals dying, so we better watch out for you.
