Note that this anime covers chapters 1-32, 37-40.

The last episode is anime original (I may be wrong since I don't follow raws), since the timeline of 12 eps won't be enough to fill in the gap that's the completed (but not fully translated) manga.

Haha, what does original endings mean to you? It's a sorely needed way to wrap up one that really has no ending due to the source material continuation.

@KANLen09
Original ending is like Kakegurui ending
It don't exist in the manga and it's a cheap way to conclude a story

I prefer when anime stay loyal to it source material

Looks like we're on the same page. :)

But sometimes I do prefer original endings if what the manga endings were as trash (sadly I cannot find any references)

One pointer is Mahoutsukai no Yome, the anime concluded with the manga already fully caught up to the halfway-point of the last episode *SPOILER ALERT* and then the 2nd half of it is the ending that we haven't seen yet in the books.

The last episode wasn't ENTIRELY an original ending, actually. It had a lot of scenes from chapters, such as the hair cutting scene, the scene where they thought the manager was promoted, the scene where he forgot his binder with notes. All of that was in the manga, so only bits and pieces like the VERY end were mostly original.

It was still a good way to wrap up the anime however. The manga does stretch just a bit further thus far.

So it is about half of the manga that got adapted?
(Manga shows 82 chapters and if this is 1-32 and 37-40.)

Seems okay. Felt like they were a bit faster near the end (once the other writer guy got introduced). Maybe they wanted to reach a certain point to get an ending that is okay + changing it a bit so it is okay as ending for people that don't know the later parts of the story. (People that don't read the manga. + no 2nd season.)

If you like a darker ending, a more meandering plot, and even less progression, I would read the manga. The mangaka lost her way around 56 and couldn't come up with a good resolution of the various plot threads. I doubt it will be fully translated. You can skip. The anime has its faults, but is better in my opinion. That's really rare.

Having only read the manga of Kagekurui (because the property wasn't good enough to consume for a second time with an adaptation) I can say with absolute certainty, that an original ending was definitely the way to go for Kakegurui. The direction the manga goes for chapter 39 onwards is garbage.

That said, there are definitely anime that suffered from diverging from the source material. After hearing a spoiler from the Fuuka manga, I thought to myself "that'd be great it if was in the anime". Same with Violet Evergarden.
