A lot of info dump this episode.

Origami Akane takes about the incidents from 20 years ago and its tragedy. An important episode for sure despite being filled with some boring narratives. I expect pacinig to pick up more next time.

Wonder how relevant Akane will be in future episodes.

Primarily just a background information transitional episode with a sliver of training thrown it at the end. I still don't know how this is gonna be 24 episodes when it seems like it could be wrapped up in far less time, but if next week's preview is any indication we may be in for some padding.

Hmm a flashback episode that shows what happened to Yukari in the past. Its nice seeing how the head teachers looked when they were still in service though. The key leaders of Mukusa though sure were surprising. So Kanami's mother fought alongside Yukari and Hiyori's mother during that incident. So Kanami and Hiyori's mothers used a technique that shortened their lives in an effort to banish the aradama. In a way i guess Kanami and Hiyori joining Mukasa is kind of like destiny as they get to stop Yukari on their behalf. The girl that Kanami kept seeing was her mother huh. Mokusa though is larger than i thought it will be though. An interesting episode full of revelations. The plot is definitely getting more interesting.

Finally, the info dump that was essentially needed ever since preceding episodes that just cruises like it was nothing, and gave precedence to the main story plot.

The threat of the other schools vs. Origami Yukari's history revealed...of a much sinister plot that's coming to expect of the future, and through Kanami and Hiyori's mothers that have sacrificed their lives in vain for Yukari's plans with the threatening aradama that's gonna repeat itself through manifestations...

And let the journey of the 6 main MCs start as the threat looms further....

This episode explained a lot and it looks like the girls where closer to each other then they thought seeing their mothers fought together against the same enemy.
The question is will the improve their relationship.
We also learned a bit about Yukari who seems much younger them her peers.
And judging the ending of this episode things could get very interesting.

Lots of information was explained in this episode that was needed. It was quite interesting to know that Kanami and Hiyori's mothers fought alongside each other.

Missing some action but otherwise nice ep.
The past is revealed and they're using the netherworld powers.
Still don't think yukari is that evil.

Whoa, that really is a huge aradama... And it's not even the main body...?

And now the truth has been confirmed.

Well, damn, even that tiny aradama is connected to the one in Yukari. We have trouble incoming now...

So now we know the details about the great disaster 20 years ago.

I had a feeling Yukari was possessed one way or another by the aradama.

Ah it was Kanami's mother this whole time helping her out in those dreams, pretty cool.

They will all need a lot of training to beat those elite guards, never mind Yukari.

I am pretty sure the Origami sisters will clash at some point after that ending.

After a string of serviceable and inoffensive episodes, I guess this is the episode where the series wants to be taken seriously, with the slew of backstory and character introductions. I imagine that these new story threads will have a future impact on future episodes but I still have a few questions, like how is it possible that Kanami can speak to a past version of her mother and how does Yukari look younger than Akane if she is supposed to be older sister. Ultimately, the show has become an enjoyable experience and I look forward to see what happens next.

They finally revealed the truth about Kanami's mother and the relevancy of Kanami being here in this whole story. Good.
I see. So Minato prepared her daughter without ever telling the truth to anyone, probably in fear of them hating Yukari (who probably ended up as collateral damage of the failure to seal the great aradama.)

The process of saving Kagari probably required Minato to seal a part of herself that includes her utsushi, so she probably figured out this part of the story, as well. (Thus is why she didn't fuss about telling the truth to her daughter. She knew her old friends will.) She just needed to make sure she got her daughter understand the basic of fighting well and leave everything else to the her inside that okatana.
Wait... if Minato lost her power bcs it was sealed inside the okatana, then Kagari's power... are we going to see Hiyori meet her mother, as well?

Maybe aradama possession is like having the One Ring

Revvie-chan's post just above explains the meetings with her mother :)

A lot of questions are now answered by this episode alone. Felt like they could end it in just 12 episodes because they already explained a lot here.

EDIT: And I just noticed that Hiyori's mother, Kagari sounded like Taneda Risa. Is she finally back? I can't seem to find any info about Kagari's seiyuu.

EDIT#2: I confimed that Kagari's seiyuu is indeed Taneda Risa. It is nice to hear her voice again.

now i'm stuck thinking what on earth is going to happen in the 2cour

but conflicted on if yukari is truly evil or is actually trying to ready herself to fight a even greater evil whatever that may be

This is starting to get pretty interesting, I have to say I didn't expect the girl from Kanami's dreams to be literally Kanami's mom, my assumption was that it was just the previous user of her Okatana. Anyway, this episode did a great job at explaining some stuff, but still leaving some questions in the air to be possibly answered in the future, the one I'm more curious about is if the Yukari we see now is truly evil or not, there seems to be more about her than just the Aradama that's possessing her body.

Finally, some explanation on the incident that happened 20 years ago. So... Kanami and Hiyori mom's help fight the great aradama.. I think history might repeat itself.. the daughters will also have to fight that giant aradama. I just hope, no one have to do a sacr ifice when that time comes.

And did not expect that it's Kanami mother showing up in her dreams... I thought what she was seeing is a sempai she had years ago. I was wrong. Good thing Kanami remembers the techniques from mom, so the dreams are useful.

And lastly, those black uniforms from the past, it reminds me of the black uniforms that the girls use in Kantai collection anime. :D

The flashback was boring could have told in few sentences instead, also so far this anime is going by the book too much, predictable and mediocre in all regards

Kanami unwilling to kill no matter what, her feelings going through to anyone, also the typical convert enemy to friend etc

So finally the plot thickens! We really needed those informations.

Is just me or, except for Hiyori and Kanami mothers, the adult version of the other old mikos doesn't seems to fit in their young bodies?

Doesn't look the same woman/girl.

So now it all adds-up! so many info dump!
We got to see some events of the great Aradama disaster 20 years ago!
So both mothers of Kanami & Hiyori are really very strong Toji! Minato and Kagari!
4/5.

Quite important backstory tying that 20yr disaster to present, how the elite became pres of each school, and those two mothers & Origami sisters.
So Kanami's mom is Red Saber who lives on in her dreams training her, awesome mom. And mom rumored to be stronger than Yukari, cue foreshadowing to Kanami besting Yukari.
I like the time becomes infinite part.
Osts actually nice when listening for it.

This episode finally gives us the audience an idea of what happened during the Great Sagomi Bay Incident. We finally know that both Kanami and Hiyori weren't just brought together by coincidence, they are brought together by fate as both their mothers knew each other and were involved in the incident. This bodes well for future episodes.

Also, that Hiyori and Kanami's mother were friends.

it seems that Yume isn't like the other elite guard, maybe she will defect to the good side in the near future and I want to know if the elite guard know if Yukari is a fake or not cuz that will determine weather they are just being used or are legit bad.
