| THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE. ---------------------------------------- There's quite a bit of skilled rivals in this competition. I think Chinatsu knew that from the beginning but still want to do her best. Really glad to see Tatara on board with her to also do his best. I think it's nice to see more of Chinatsu's past to understand her better. An episode that focuses on her character is necessary given her important role this season. I thought the storytelling about Chinatsu is interesting given that she seems like a tomboy and also realizing what inspired her to dance. Solid episode. |

| Nice backstory about Chinatsu and Akira this week that helps us understand them and care about them a little more. Also, it seems like the smell of yuri is in the air. |

| How you look is also important in dancing. Having a full custom attire to shape it to your body could change the results of one whole round. Got to see some backstory for Chinatsu and Akira in this episode. Akira developed feelings for her over the years, but never told her about them. She doesn't like it when Chinatsu isn't interested in her. I still don't like her though. Her nasty personality annoys me. |

| Clothes are making people,nice that they elaborated that aspect of competive dancing a bit too. Good flashback about how Chinatsu and Akira met,helped a lot to understand the latter ones feelings better. Being infuriated she's going to give her all next time. |

| Great episode again. Despite Chinatsu and Tatara still being rough around the edges, they're doing well in the competition. Them Chinatsu provocations though, I kinda felt sad for Akira considering how savage Chinatsu was being. We finally get the backstory for Chintasu and Akira and this, this was totally not what I expected. I'm all for the Yuri now, Go Akira x Chinatsu. XDD I gotta admit the Akira and Chintasu moments in the flashback were adorable. That ending frame, that face. Scary Akira. O.o |

| Oh boy, being picked on as a kid for being a bit chubby can be abysmal, thankfully it didn't go further. I actually liked this episode a lot since I was curious on why Akira and Chinatsu are like that now so I don't know why are people complaining, I doubt it would be the same if instead half episode the flashback would have been five minutes. Didn't we get like a whole episode dedicated to partner development when they were at Marisa's place? And I bet there's going to be more during this tournament and maybe even after (can't say for sure though, haven't read the manga, it just seems like it will happen). Honestly, I think that the backstory was kind of needed to understand the animosity between Chinatsu and Akira, and I found it quite interesting. |

| That was a really well-made episode! I felt like they were able to fit a lot of plot and character backstory/development in here. Yes, I do believe that the Chinatsu/Akira backstory was necessary - otherwise the viewers would forever believe that the 'rivalry' they have with each other is more two-dimensional than it actually is. It's interesting to learn of the underlying emotions hidden underneath all that viciousness and negative emotions they developed towards each other over the years, and even more interesting how a seemingly good friendship can devolve in this way. THIS IS HOW CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT IS DONE! Also, Akira made me laugh in that last frame XD "Stop your damn flirting!" she growls as they continue to 'flirt'/argue/banter/whatever the heck they usually do. |

| Nice backstory. I could understand more what happened in their past. They were best friends at that time and then they became enemies? That part became unclear to me and I need to know what exacly happened to the girls to dispise each other so much. Little Chinatsu was very pretty with long hair. I feel bad for Aki for being called fat at school. Kids can be really mean sometimes :I And that ending... whut? Aki feels threatened and jealous seeing her old friend being flirted XD What a scary face she's making! |

Really enjoyed that backstory. There must be a special circle in hell reserved for the kids who bullied little Aki and Chinatsu, though. Cute that those two had such a close bond when they were younger.  VERY GOOD BALLROOM MOMS. |
| Chinatsu is becoming the main girl and the secondary protagonist in the series so I don't see this episode as filler at all. This episode is as much her backstory as it is Akira's and at this point her backstory is as important (if not more interesting) as Tatara's. After seeing the dynamic play out between Chinatsu and Akira over the last few episodes I half expected some kind of yuri twist so I wasn't really surprised at all, I doubt it will lead anywhere though or even get properly addressed. I like how Chinatsu and Tatara resolve their differences through yelling at each other and getting everything out in the open, I know a few successful couples who are much like that. |

| Great episode as usual. I was hoping for a more realtime analysis of the dancing from Tatara's perspective, but the rounds are being largely skipped over. That should change once the competition gets serious. Understandable backstory. |

| I like Akira a whole lot more after this episode and also, Kid Chinatsu is too kawaii Plus dem brief cameos for Hyoudo, his mom and the others in the past was pretty nice to see :) |
| Yuri in the Ballroom! Not a lot of dancing this episode. Just a backstory to cover Chinatsu and Akira's pasts. And aww Aoi Yuuki's crying voice. |

| Oh look, we got a backstory from a character that doesn't matter for the plot instead of getting a backstory from a character that does matter for the plot. Why do I read many people being happy with this episode? For my part, both in the manga and the anime, I didn't care about Akira's reasons for developing an obsessive and dependent love for Chinatsu, instead, I would have liked to see Chinatsu's attraction to dance from her own point of view, as it should be if she's a character that matters for this story, because the lesbian friend disappears from now on, while she will be Tatara's partner for possibly a long time. Akira's past could have been summed up in a few flashbacks, too much time spent on a character that is not likeable. It's a bit annoying to get a full episode for characters like Akira, that we will not see again but they take away and delete important and not that important moments of the characters such as Shizuku and Kiyoharu. I keep noticing more bad decisions in production, and each time it becomes even more annoying. |

| I'm on the boat of those who thinks the flashback was a great idea. _ first we have the chance to see a bit more of Chinatsu character and passion. _ Second we understand better the rivalry between Chinatsu and Akira and see that there's a lot more than a simple "I'm better than you" in the story. _ third, when a shounen stopped getting focused only on the male MC, it stopped being an average shounen. What's the name of this law that was almost broken here ? |

Ok, I know this is the style they're going for in this anime, and I haven't yet complained about the giraffe necks or the impossible postures or the caterpillar eyelashes. But wtf is up with Gaju's lips in the bathroom scene? It's like he used fudge sauce as lipstick. I couldn't stop staring at everyone's lips the entire episode to see if they were the same. Click for full size/uncropped. Otherwise, was interesting seeing Aki and Chinatsu's backstory. I wouldn't have guessed that Aki had secretly been in love for all that time. The 1st grade flashback reminded me of Riko and Kanna-san (Kobayashi-san). Young Chii-chan was cuter and cooler than current Chii-chan. But current Chii-chan is very beautiful, so she doesn't need cute or cool. Part of me is starting to ship Hyoudou x Gaju, and the other part wonders why it took me so long to start. (And I really want to see an uke Gaju.) I still prefer to pair Tatara with Mako. Sorry, Chii-chan. Will Tatara and Chii-chan get in sync in time? Stay tuned to find out next week. |

| The backstory into Chinatsu and Akira's past was longer than I thought it would be, which was a good thing, since the show did a very good job at explaining how Akira became friends with Chinatsu, how they first started dancing and also how Chinatsu got her first inspiration to becoming a pro dancer. Seeing the scene where both girls, along with Gaju, Mako, Shizuku and Hyodo when they were younger, along with their respective mothers, apart from Shizuku's mother, was pretty cute though. =) Akira showed quite a lot of jealousy towards Chinatsu and Tatara during the dancing, although she thinks they're flirting with each other. XD Great episode overall once again. =) |

| People complaining about this being too much of a use of an episode to develop a side character are missing the point. This is as much about fleshing out Chinatsu and making her more than a stock tsundere. |
