Just wondering how a show manages to stay afloat that long. Even One Piece can''t beat it. Has anyone seen this show? I'm curious as to why it's still popular. Voice actors and animation quality probably changed over the decades as well. Has anyone here dared to watch an episode of it? Perhaps there is someone here crazy enough to have seen the whole thing, lol. Even if the episodes are short, it's still quite a lot, maybe 2500 normal episodes.

Especially since they don't do DVD/Blu-Ray releases because the author didn't want them to

@Swagernator I suppose so

@RoryBurrows Makes sense. The pile dvds it would take to collect the series would be massive lol

@velvetPhos fascinating insight, thanks for the information

Yeah; but it means they make no revenue off of Sazae other than the small amount they get from television broadcasts

And yet they they keep producing the series. They must be making profit somehow. The anime serves as an ad for the manga, maybe? Idk Or the anime doesn't take much money to animate

Sazae-san makes profit from ratings alone. As for why it's been on for nearly 50 years, it's an intergenerational anime (almost everyone in Japan with a TV has watched at least 1 episode if not grown up with it) not to mention it's one of the few anime that's socially acceptable to watch by adults in Japan.

There is no way a 5 years old kid can watch them. Well, you sound like a troll, kid.

Come on man you know too that anime is not just for kids....

I can prove it too... Just try to show anyone of the below series to kid. These are good btw

1. Scum's Wish
2. Nana
3. White Album 2
4. Elfen Lied
5. 5 centimetres per second
6. Stiens Gate (well, the whole plot for this one)

These are nothing there are a ton of anime and manga (well if i start for manga then I'll write 20 titles in a blink which have super mature theme and storytelling. e.g. Bitter Virgin) which has mature, complex and unconventional storytelling. Far above any kids capability to interpret. I can also say to even understand Death Note, you need to be atleast 12+

Well it's also true that mature titles don't get much animation (so they remain limited to mangas) since they don't tend to get as popular as the conventional, childish and fan service animes so everyone thinks Anime=cartoons=for kids. This is just wrong.

Your absolutely right, but the industry is as large and caníbal to make profit and money of a old show,so boring and so nostalgic.

Why is Sazae San is still running??? The answer is in the link I am sharing ....Sazae San is still the most watched anime series in Japan with average Tv ratings as high as 10... I go through all the lists released this year so far and even Demon Slayer was unable to beat it in ratings expect on one occasion when Sazae-san was not aired...
