Being a huge fan of Gundam The Origin, I never thought I'd see a heroic tale as epic as Casval's journey to becoming Akai Suisei. But Haku's story managed to surpass that. The Mask duology has one of my favourite plots in any video game and Haku is IMO the most well-written and best protagonist of any JRPG.
The remake of the first game is coming out soon!
They have some of the best writing and characters I've ever experienced. Anime and video games can't really compete with eroge for me in that regard.
I can read Arabic (I'm a muslim) but I don't understand it, lol.
I didn't make anilist until now because maintaining two accounts seems like a bother, but now I'm pretty much done with anime, so why not
I'll inform you when I finally make one
There was a scene where Rosa tells Maria in her face that she never loved her, and that she wishes she never been born. I don't know if it was Bernkastel or Beatrice that pulled the strings to these events, but it really broke my heart seeing that. We can probably deduce that the Rosa we see getting gored by Maria & Beatrice is a one dimensional representation of Rosa (a manifestation of her "black witch" persona that Maria and Beatrice developed together), but I can imagine her saying those things to Maria. It's kinda similar to how Kyrie said to Eva that she hate Ange. They probably say those things out of anger and extreme distress. They probably don't actually feel that way. No, I believe they really don't.
Did you finish ep 8 now? Be sure to read the manga too. The Halloween Party in manga is my favorite part of ep 8. Especially that Beato & Natuhi scene.
Oh well. Having said all that, we have to admit that we laugh seeing this
And as you said, she is full of contradiction. Her actions don’t match with her goals. She wants to be a good mother to Maria, but she actively takes steps to worsen the relationship between herself and Maria. But she knows how grimy she is and is burdened by guilt and self hate. She’s a neurotic with tendency to have rage attacks and emotionally unstable. That’s what makes her so relatable.
And yet from what I’ve seen in the fandom she seemed to be pretty hated. It saddens me. People need to understand the nature of abuse and why people actually hurt each other. Sometimes abuse is a reflex rather than an act of malice, and people like that need help and love, not hatred.
Oh, my mom was like Eva too. She prioritizes my education and health over anything.
Speaking of Eva, she was also demeaned by Krauss. Everything she did to Natsuhi might seem reasonable to some extent if we try to understand her pov and what she had gone through. Another reason she desperately tried to raise George to be a great person is so that he won’t lose to Krauss’ child. An opportunity to bring down Krauss and she’d be in the front line.
They’re all flawed, you can’t just describe one as ‘good’ or ‘evil’, that’s what makes me really love every single character, especially the Ushiromiyas, to the point that I was moved to tears seeing how loyal Natsuhi is despite not being blood-related. I do feel her.
Character study is one of Umineko’s strongest aspects. Instead of using my mind to think about the puzzle, I liked to observe the human nature more. Umineko is about believing on what you think is right, and you need love to do that. From the beginning I always believed that Natsuhi is the most innocent being in Umjneko. No particular reason actually, just following my heart. Yeah she did ‘bad’ things like scolding the servants and being too strict to her daughter, well I saw that as just part of her dignity. When I was reading ep 5, shit happens and I finally knew the real bad side of hers. That was distressing. I cried upon knowing her backstory. But I still believed in her I wouldn't betray her. And after ep 5 ended I was very glad that I had always been with her til the end. Of course I wouldn’t ignore the fact that she killed a servant and attempted to murder a baby. But she wholeheartedly tries to repent and atone for those sins and I love her for that. Even if in the end she never really get out of the helplessness due to her unawareness of illusion she created herself out of her strong feeling of seeking Kinzo’s acceptance, but deep down Natsuhi did her best to protect the one-winged eagle harder than anyone else did.
And that’s why I will always thank Battler for what he did in ep 5. He defended Natsuhi and overcome all the things that might dishonor her and the family. Ep 5 tea party ending is the most satisfying scene in the entire Umineko for me.
Ouch, I feel sorry for your cousins. Their situation is kinda like Ange’s if you ask me. Your uncle has more than one wife now? Or he divorced the previous ones? Lol, either way it’s a level of misdeed only bastards like Rudolf could pull.
I have very personal reasons o why I love them very much.
If you look at this family tree of mine you'll notice some similarities it shares with Ushiromiya's. Also, let me tell a little story
I never found someone who appreciates Ushiromiya moms as much as you, so I feel like telling you this story, lol. Adults’ family conflict is something I’d love to see in fiction yet I rarely see it in anime/manga/vn, so seeing Umineko tackles all that with its own unique lore had me moved, and I fell in love since the first episode. The adults, especially the moms, have so much depth as a character, I found it so relatable too that it really hit home seeing their struggle doing the best for their beloved ones. They are not perfect, they did many mistakes. But their love is real it feels so warm.
What do you like about Rosa? I’d love to hear it. She is one of the most overlooked characters in the series. Also what do you think about Maria? I found her rather annoying but that makes me appreciate Rosa even more. To raise and handle such a kid as a single parent is not an easy task to do. Rosa also felt guilty of killing Beatrice, so hearing Maria talk about her being alive must have made her feel haunted.
