| THIS IS A MANGA ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS ANYTHING BEYOND THIS CHAPTER. ---------------------------------------- This volume was perhaps my favorite Kaiji volume yet. I loved the scene where Kaiji was dangling, how we got to see how much of a survivor he is when he was planning to hold on to the seat and spring his body to land on his feet. It doesn't matter how ridiculous the plan is, he never gives up. The way his life flashed before his eyes and the pan behind him on the reveal that the Asian two had bet their lives was perfect. I honestly was expecting Kaiji to land the 1/32 chance and get the net. However, it's definitely a better solution to the problem. Kaiji offering them 600 million each was the most Kaiji thing he could've done. "I won't owe you anything! There's no way I can gamble well bawling my eyes in gratitude, but just this once.. Chang.. Mario.. THANK YOU!!!". What a beautiful display, Kaiji's made some true friends. Maybe they'll even be smart enough not to be manipulated to betray Kaiji! Then.. queue the mindset of Kazuya! We see he truly is a spoiled and jaded brat, lying to himself that what he's seeing isn't true friendship, wanting to kill them. I'm glad we got to see the world from his perspective like we did, it really humanized him. To end on a three life gamble is just as ridiculous as anything else this volume if not more! There's still a lot of room for things to go wrong for Kaiji. Let's hope. I think this part has the best game, although I really enjoyed part 3's as well, and maybe the 2nd best villain with Muraoka as the best. This is good stuff. |
