Hi fellas!

I joined this club recently and it looks like nobody's really active here. Let's change that with a question:

What's the last josei anime you watched and would you recommend us to watch it?

The most recent one I watched is called NANA. 100% suggest it to you if you haven't seen it already :)

Anyway, looking forward to discussing stuff with you all!

I'm not a fella :-) but I definitely recommend Princess Jellyfish. The OP is one of the coolest I've seen (probably because I got each and every movie reference). My all time favorite is Nodame Cantibile. I like how it depicts the true progression of a relationship. I started Hachimitsu to Clover and seems pretty cool so far. I put it on hold to do the anime watching challenge with a sci-fi restriction.

The Usagi Drop anime was fantastic - I loved it so so so very much. But do yourself a favor, and don't read the manga. It's not worth scarring yourself forever lol. Things got very *very* weird lol.

Hmm, my favorite Josei.. There are so many that are good. I very much like Otona Joshi no Anime Time. Each episode is a one-off that focuses on the lives and struggles of adult women in a very real and understated fashion. I've watched them all sooo many times now.

Nodame Cantabile is another favorite, and of course NANA was great, but sadly Yazawa Ai got sick before finishing the manga. The manga goes on for a long time after the anime ends, and it's so so so soooo good, but it ends pretty abruptly on a cliff-hanger without a new chapter in years. I hope Yazawa-sensei is ok.

I also never finished Hachimitsu no Clover. I should really try to rewatch it, but I guess it starts slow and every time I've tried to watch it, I wind up getting distracted half way though lol.

I think Eden of the East is technically Josei, or at least I've seen it listed as such in the past, though I can't seem to find where that was.

I'm currently watching Kaze to Ki no Uta. It's a shoujo anime from the 70's or 80, but shoujo anime back then was extremely intense - the subject matter would definitely not fly for any under-18 material these days. While it focuses on school-aged boys, the material is definitely mature enough for me to consider it Josei. I guess in that same vein, Oniisama e.... would also only really have appeal to older women. Well, I suppose younger girls might like it too, but they certainly shouldn't be watching it lol. Sex, drugs, suicide, self mutilation, forbidden love, and all sorts of more adult themes that would keep it far out of the shoujo genre if the anime was released today, rather than 40+ years ago.

The last josei manga I've read (or technically still reading since the scanlations come out as slowly as a turtle) is 7 seeds and I definitely recommend it. It's a great post-apocalyptic story, full of psychologically complex and morally nuanced characters.

The last anime... Hmm, probably Onnisama e.. which I loved and together with Utena might be my favorite josei anime.
Currently I'm anticipating the release of Rinshi!! Ekoda-chan, which is an adaptation of a 4-koma josei manga. I've wanted to read the manga now for some time, but the problem is that it's just impossible to translate. There's one scanlated chapter online and you can clearly see that a lot of the jokes got lost in translation.

When it comes to favorite manga, I have my holy trio: two Yazawa titles, Paradise Kiss and Nana; and Pink by Kyoko Okazaki. ParaKiss is probably the best coming of age story I've ever read and I love how it contrasts its bitter realism with the lavish world of fashion, Nana on the other hand might be the best manga about interpersonal relationships I've read and lastly, Pink is a hilariously cynical exploration of life and love in times of capitalism. Those two artists (Ai Yazawa and Kyoko Okazaki) + Moyoco Anno (whose mangas, except for Happy Mania, are for some reason not here; probably because they're often misqualified as seinen) are my favorite in the josei genre.
