Well this episode was kinda weird. One thing is for sure though...don't take Heizou's smoke pipe without his permission.

The series can also surprisingly put up some decent fireworks.

That was a really fun episode, a really nice change of pace from the usual darker/tragic tones of the series.

Our man Heizo sure played the Old Man right into his trap., I so wanted to see more of the Old Man's reactions when Heizo revealed himself and asked the old guy to return his case. xD
Though you gotta admit that it was pure luck that Heizo chanced upon the thief.

Fun episode. Heizou played the old man into his trap. You don't mess around with his dad's pipe. The old man's son was surprised it was him that stole the pipe. That fish is huge.

I'm enjoying this anime more than I expected at first. Can anyone recommend something similar? Any other Samurai historical seinen out there?

Again, this proves MC is a lenient guy. He recognized the old man’s skill and ethics (for a thief) he snuck 2 times even if the second one he was awake nonetheless he got pass his bodyguards but at the same time he let him know that if he swings and miss/3 strike (by trying to pull another stunt or any kind of theft act again) he is going out of the game... I liked this cat & mouse game.

Saraiya Goyou or house of five leaves is a nice one. It's focused more on the drama than on the fighting scenes tho. The plot is good and the animation was nice.

Brave 10, Drifters, Tono to Issho (more focused on the comedy, the episodes last 3 mins tho), shigurui (gory and mature)

I hope this will help you :D

Nice game. I was expecting a more violent reaction and was happily given the opposite.

4/5

The more I see, the more I want to see more of those stories. Was there no feature-length episode or best-of collection sold outside Japan/Asia ?

I was expecting to give a 4 or a 5 to this anime in their first episodes, but after all it seems to be a very enjoyable series and Heizo is a very charismatic protagonist after all !!! :D

Onihei, is a real joker, he loves to have a heart attack to the victim that puts a spoke in the wheels. On the positive side, this episode has the fact that he made a little more clarity in the character of Heizo, but from a point of view of the main plot, there are no further developments, what a pity! Ok the quality of the drawings, really good the fireworks, they seemed real.

Another good episode!
who would have thought that officials of the Arson Theft control would be robbed at! and not only that, but a 68-year old geezer!
That was a very giant koi! and the hanabi are beautiful!
5/5.

@SnowC

I haven't personally watched these, but perhaps Shigurui, Basilisk, Bakumatsu Kikansetsu Irohanihoheto, The Hakkenden (1990) and Miyamoto Musashi: Souken ni Haseru Yume? The vibes they give off seem similar to Onihei. :)

Surprisngly for me they had some really nice fireworks o_O. Btw was that oldman that guy who taught Kumehachi 3 laws of Thief back in ep1?
All in all i love how he played with that old man. totally played him out. he totally wasn't expecting that coming heh. I think the reason why he told others that he was robbed is to make everyone more on guard, since whenever people get robbed they become more vary of their surroundings and won't get robbed again, he just wanted his subordinates to work even harder.
Glad he didn't arrest thief in the end and showed him how great Onihei is.
