so i just finished the 1999 manga version and i am beyond lost. it wasnt bad its just i had no idea what was happening! is it a slice of life kind of manga? nothing seemed to really connect and i was having trouble differentiating whats what because the art isnt the best so if someone could just summarize it that would be awesome!!

also who is the red head on the vespa? is she supposed to be evil or like a chaotic good kinda character??

and who is the mayor's daughter? was she supposed to be a love interest? the same goes for the bother's ex.

i just really need someone to just break down the plot because i feel like i gave it a low score because i just didnt get it. thanks in advance!!

There is nothing to get in FLCL. Don't bother wasting your time trying to understand it.
I had the same thought process, and gave it a rewatch about a month ago. It shifted from being frustrating/confusion to pure rage inducing at the way that it f*d up nearly everything that can be f'd up.

Because it was aired during the turn-of-the-millennium western anime heyday alongside Cowboy Bebop, so a lot of people rate it highly based on nostalgia.

That, and people like to imagine that the (half-assed) attempt of a "Coming of Age" story within the work is something profound, when it is anything but.

And then there are a few people who actually like the over-the-top without reason style.

Watch the anime. It might help you understand what's going on if you see the stuff animated. But then again, it probably won't make a difference at all. It is random and nonsensical but that's why I liked it.

There is a bunch of long analytical videos about that series on youtube. The show isn't that appealing to me either but it's basically about an adolescence trying to forge his own identity.

Basically Monogatari Series but in short version.

Take a look at my webnovel, read and seek the hidden truth behind the cursed ducks.

The manga differs a lot from the anime, and adds to the lore of the series, but also is harder to understand.

Sometimes it's more about the felling than the action, like when Naota attacks his father with the bat, and kills him.

For me it's the story of a child trying to accept that he is a mere child in a world where adults are children. nobody knows what the f*k is doing, they are just doing what the are told to, and Naota raises with Ninamori vs Haruko and MM.

Everything that happens in the series happens here, but anything happens in the same way.

No. It's just a stupid fun anime and it's fine if you didn't like it.
