I loved the ending. It is rare to see an anime actually end happily ever after ... with some much hope.

Overall, the series was bittersweet. It had lots of drama but I don't recall any scene that seemed forced or too cheesy. Happy endings tend to be bland for most anime but this one was rather satisfying after all of the tragedy that happened.

Such a nice ending. I agree it was satisfying with everyone leading out their lives happily. Although the whole Kurau's rynax return was predictable. Episode 18 just kept playing through my mind for the final half of the episode. Despite some of my gripes about stuff like the action scenes, the core of the story with Christmas and Kurau was good.

...even a saint needs a soldier to do the dirty work.

It's rare that I stumble upon anime of this caliber. Everything was so well done.. the last episode got me on the verge of tears. I thought they were going to end it with Christmas being alone. Personally, I think it would have been a tragic ending, but also a good one. I definitely have no complaints how the ending was. It made the sadness go away. ::*is easily moved by such anime*::

I'm glad I watched. ^^d

While the ending was good, I just cannot understand one thing. When rynax went into Kurau's body, it stated that it merged with Kurau to become what it is, a distinct being. So I don't understand how the Kurau that emerged from Christmas is the same Kurau, or how the Kurau that was left behind is different. Or how they are able to separate for that matter. If the Kurau left behind has all the memories of the what happened, how she is different from the rynax Kurau? And if the original Kurau is a result of a merger between the human persona and the rynax persona, how is the third Kurau the same as the original, when she is just her rynax persona. The only way this would make sense is if rynax was in the position of dominance in Kurau's body and human Kurua was there but had no control over what happens. But this isn't the case because the new being states it is a merger of the two and calls Kurau's dad her dad (implying she is Kurau as well rather then a entity inside Karau). This paradox is what irritates me about the ending. It would have been better if the original Kurau was the one that reunited with Christmas. But I guess I'm expecting too much of this anime for it to remain internally logical. (It's also not the first anime, which has an illogical ending. Is having a logical ending really that hard? Throwing out its own logic for a happy ending seems like a poor move to me.)

Yeah, it was heartwarming to see Christmas reunite with her pair, but at the same time. It seemed like the anime was trying really hard to give all the characters their happy ending. Amami has his "daughter" back, original Karau has her normal life back, Christmas has her pair back, Ayaka has a family of her own, etc. Personally I prefer more bittersweet ending that are true to the mood of the anime (Karau was more tragic than happy) and actually make sense, than forced down your throat happy endings for the sake of having a happy ending. I guess in the end, I only liked the ending because of the rest of the anime. (Which itself wasn't perfect; but that is a rant for another day. Gave it a 7 in the end because it was still quite enjoyable).

Alright that is it for my diversion. Any help sorting out the logic of the ending would be much appreciated. :)

this anime has been a masterpiece for me...nothing lame and cheesy, no stupid moments that dont make much sense. its by far the most times iv shead a tear while watching an anime, but the cutting back and forth at the ending wasnt that emotional as other reuniting episodes in the series.....but it was still emotional, and what made this anime so emotionally brilliantly is the depth of the emotional music...i mean the music did it all, expressed every mood available...dam what a good anime

geeze 5/5 for me :P

I'm not the childish person who cries on every melodrama....
Actually at the beginning of the 24 i had the tears dropping down my face... That was just because i really love the character - Kurau, she was always this helpful, great and taking care of everybody, and when it came to her death.... My frustration was higher because this girl in Kurau's body wasn'r really Kurau it was just some kind of doc Amami's daughter i have no warm feelings for her so she made me angry...

but i was praying was kurau's resurrection and it was.... in her new body ...

Beautiful. I'll rate this series a 7/10. It had some slow points but I didn't mind it.

This identity problem is what I found so fascinating about the opening of the series, but I agree that ultimately it didn't address it very well. There's also the fact that all the "Ryna sapiens" we see only every use human names so it's strongly implied that a Rynax/human merging is not the same thing as a "naked" Rynax even as it's obvious it's not the same as a normal human.

This could be seen as something like Thomas Hobbes' addition to the ancient Ship of Theseus thought experiment. Rynax and Kurau come together, then split, then the Rynax emerges again. Which, if any, is the Kurau we watched throughout the series?

I’m still mystified how Christmas and Rynax-Kurau were able to create human bodies out of nothing when every other Rynax (including Kurau’s Rynax the first time) needed to inhabit an existing human body.

Very much so. To be honest, Rynax-Kurau coming back like that is cheesy as hell and is the exact ending that can be found in so many silly shows of various kinds about superpowered companions. This show really had the potential to be better than a cheap feel-good shot at the end like that.

I feel like some things were not fully explored. We start the series focusing more on Kurau’s identity as a Rynax as she’s lonely without her “pair”, has superpowers, and gets chased by the space police, but by the end she’s arguably identifying more with humanity as she fights to keep any more Rynax from emerging even as she sympathizes with their desire to enter a “wide world”. Kurau was never an angsty or angry character so this transition is more subtle than usual for this kind of thing but I feel it gets lost in the shuffle with all this GPO stuff going on at the end which is not very interesting.

The last handful of episode feel kind of rushed and squeezed in general, which makes me regret even more those three episodes spent with Yvon and that the main characters spent so long bouncing from place to place getting chased by the space police.

And the whole “Rynax energy” thing just feels like a plotline that was totally dropped without it ever being developed.

It's been awhile, but agreed, the identity thing was intriguing for me as well, which is why I was so frustrated when it wasn't addressed. As for the allusion to Ship of Theseus paradox. I can see what you are trying to say, but at the same time, that does not quite apply the same to consciousness. I say this because a consciousness is not something that can be broken down, it can only be expanded or built up. To illustrate what I mean, take amnesia, when a person regains lost memories, they technically merge their pre-amnesia self with their amnesia self to become a third post-amnesia entity. But it's not like they can "go back" to being how they were pre-amnesia or during amnesia, because those memories and experiences are already there and they build up to the current third consciousness. Consciousness does change (that I do not refute), but it's a one way direction. There is no going back. So what frustrates me so much about the ending is that somehow, a new merged consciousness was broken down back into two old ones. I could see it as two copies of the same consciousness (think cloning consciousness or Ghost dubbing a la Ghost in the Shell), but I do not see how they could remove the merged consciousness and go back to being two past consciousnesses.

That ending couldn't be any any better. Towards the end I was wondering the same thing, that just like christmas manifested herself out of kurau why can't kurau do the same, and when it actually happen i was quite happy. Now, I'm not a fan of happy ending myself but this story deserves to end on a sweet and happy note as both Kurau and christmas have suffered alot.
Overall this show was really good, the inseparable bond between christmas and Kurau appealed to me the most.

Everyone acted as if Kurau died... oh wait, she technically did but didn't, but then was reborn again through Christmas despite having a human form... I feel as if a lot of questions remain unanswered regarding the Rynax. Not unusual for an original show tho.

The first half of this show had potential. The second half felt as if it was dragging itself to the finish line. I'd say it was overly dramatic, but that comes with the territory of dealing with family, life and death themes. Can say for certain tho, I hate the word 'Christmas' now. Thanks, anime. 4/10 for me.

Mixed feelings about this ending. It was nice that everyone got a happy ending, but I don't see why Kurau just straight-up discarded Christmas. Sure, she wasn't Rynax or her Pair anymore, but Kurau herself said her consciousness was watching everything from the sidelines and after all those ordeals, you would think she would have some small connection to Christmas. At least enough to be a part of each other's lives, if not start over again and grow as sisters. But everyone but Doug seemingly nope'd right out of there and it pissed me off a little.

Also, what happened to Ichise? I assume he got arrested, but were there really no more Rynax-enhanced soldiers? Kind of hard to believe they were all wiped out in the mountains.

And I can't believe they were still harnessing Rynax energy after all that. I know it wouldn't have been in the main characters' control but it seemed like whatever powers that be would have heeded the dangers of continuing to mess around with it.

Overall, very good show. It had a great start, but then kind of fizzled for me in the 1st half. But the 2nd half really stepped it up and drove me all the way to the finish. 8.5/10
