I need someone to confirm If I understood this OVA well.
Nanami is the descendant of Yukiji .. But the one who Tomoe fell in love with was Nanami when she traveled 500 years back?
There was a scene in season 1 I think, showing Nanami trying to help Yukiji as she was going to die, that means that Tomoe met Yukiji after Nanami disappeared after she promised him she will be his future wife!
I'm trying to complete the puzzle but my mind is blown now xD

Tomoe has always loved Nanami since 500 years ago. I suggest that you read the whole past arc of the manga (chapters 79-101) to get a better and fuller grasp of the Past arc. If you can't read it as of now, below is a bit of a spoiler summary.
Tomoe met the real Yukiji (not possesed by Nanami) twice. First was a brief encounter during the time Yukiji traveled to the capital after Nanami looks after Tomoe/Himetarou, and the second was after Nanami gave past Tomoe the hairpin.
When past Tomoe left Nanami in the lord's mansion (after their promise and the hairpin was given to him), Yukiji actually saw the whole scene between them. Yukiji was moon-viewing when she came across past Tomoe and Nanami vowing to each other in that veranda. (This part wasn't shown in the 4th OAD.)
The second time past Tomoe met the real Yukiji, it was after 8 years Nanami promised to him. It was hinted at that time that Yukiji's body is weak, and I think it's probably due to many miscarriages on her part. Akura-ou who woke up from his wine-induced sleep (caused by Tomoe) was led by Furball to where Real Yukiji is. Real Yukiji's husband and servants were killed by Akura-ou and his minions, and then the lord's mansion was set on fire.
Yukiji is pregnant with her lord/husband's child, so she tries to escape so she can save her child. That was when Tomoe came, and having seen his and Nanami's interaction before, Yukiji pretended he was the Yukiji (Nanami-pretending to be Yukiji) he'd known before and asked him to save her.
Yukiji still hates youkai, but she tries to pretend she's okay with Tomoe near her for her child. She pretends she could not see due to the flint from the fire, so he won't notice that her eyes are different from Nanami. Due to seeing Nanami and Tomoe before, she was able to convince Tomoe that she's "Yukiji" he promised with. Yukiji didn't marry Tomoe.
Yukiji was still sickly and Tomoe heard that childbirth is dangerous for humans. He got the dragon's eye and saw Nanami (this is back from season 1). He thought Yukiji died and her soul (that is, Nanami) came to see him. He hurried home and then left and then Nanami fed Yukiji the dragon's eye.
Yukiji did die because of Akura-ou though. It was later on. Yukiji and Tomoe were not romantically involved, but they respected each other at the end. It was clear, until her death, that Yukiji still loves her husband.

Thank you very much for this summary. I was just about to write one myself. But you explained all the relevant details quite perfect.
I think this thread will be helpful to a lot of anime only viewers. I guess the anime is a bit too rushed to grasp all the info from the manga.
Thank you so much for the summary witchhuntress! I'm so happy I could read it. It is still very helpful 2 years later and answers a lot of my questions :)
