I had an impression that it was like a concentration/work camp for chickens, until all hell broke loose with the fighting.

With flood comes death.
And still, Bill will live on.
He will befriend the next inhabitants of the earth, beings of light who revere him as a god.
And Bill will outlive them all... for millions and millions of years...exploring, learning, living,
until the earth is swallowed beneath his feet.
Until the sun is long since gone.
Until time loses all meaning and the moment comes that he knows only the positions of the stars
and sees them whether his eyes are closed or open.
Until he forgets his name and the place where he'd once come from.
He lives and he lives until all of the lights go out.

Basically...chicken crisis! A farm, a dead chicken, chickens running for their lives. Animation sure aged though.

I stopped understanding what was going on after the chicken rebellion. And what's with the cigarettes?

Didn't quite get the symbolism behind the name - but the animation itself is a clear denunciation of capitalism, wage slavery and factory work. Tezuka espousing for seizing the means of production? Or probably criticizing the low wage slavery that the animation industry suffers through? Pretty ironic considering how Miyazaki literally blames Tezuka for the slave like wages that have become established practice in the industry.

Some of the reviews for this though. the one star review? Jeez, that was some heavy cringe.

Showing the cruel ways we have reduced some animals...stripping them of their freedom, their young and their very lives. ANd it does a war thing...Dunno why somebody felt the needto talk about CHicken RUn the movie in the synopsis for this anime, but oh well. Guess somebody felt they couldnt get the message of enslavement, abuse of nature and war across to people lol 6/10 for doing such things YEARS before others.
