How good was the adaptation? Was it loyal to the original?

I personally had a few problems with the way the mystery was shown, and last episode's sudden addition of an 8th brave (just like Adlet expected, there was an 8th brave?) just left me wondering if it's worth reading the whole thing.

I really liked some characters (namely Chamot, Fremy and Hans), but the way the mystery was developed in the anime was in my opinion pretty lackluster (mainly because there wasn't any hint for us to be a part of it, and Adlet eventually required an amount of luck to uncover the mystery, aside from other personal preferences of mine) and a bit rushed. So I'd like to know if the LNs develop it better than this, and if it's worth going all the way the LN story just like the ratings would make me believe at this point.

Thanks for your patience. ^^

it's only 1 vol anyways, if you want to read novel. The anime provided the same details, but the novel gave me different feeling. so if you want to read the novel, you can just read from vol 2. and read vol 1 again after finished everything if you want the different feeling. (or just ignored vol 1)

Overall, it was quite loyal to the original. A few things got adjusted here and there, but overall it's the same story in different form, and no important details were left out, it seems.

The one major difference between the LN and the anime is that LN started with a "trailer" of Adlet running though the forest and dodging accusations of treason (in the form of other braves' attacks). Anime viewers had to look at synopsis or trailer to know it is a mystery anime.

Nashetania going crazy and breaking the tablet was too obvious in the anime. i had to spend too much time on these forums shifting the blame away from her.

Adlet's theory's 8th was Riura. He didn't actually think there is more than one fake brave among them. Rolonia is a pure sequel hook at this point.

Thanks, that made it so much clearer to me ^^

Btw, I think they tried to fit in the trailer of the LN in the opening, they are attacking Adlet in the second, darker one.

I think I'll give it a try, but I don't really like the way they added Rolonia right at the end of the last episode... oh well, that's what we get with LN adaptations...

Oh, I forgot one thing. In the novels there are no clues that the setting is styled after mesoamerica, not europe. Or maybe there are, but they are few and far between, so I didn't notice them.

I have noticed quite the big differences from the LN. Anime was good, but LN is better IMO.

[*]The seventh brave has monologues during the course of the first volume. It mentions names and it makes you aware of who are being target or will be target. This gives a good insight of how the seventh brave thinks and when you are given the reason of why he is betraying the other braves, it makes more sense on why the seventh is doing that.
[*]The fights, and the explanation are more detailed than in the anime.
[*]The way the clues are given make you think a bit more, than watching them. When you watch them, you tend to ignore small details, but when you read them, you're forced to read them, at least one time and that can make you realize sooner who's the seventh. Sadly it isn't the same with the 8th in next volumes. XD

I feel like the fights have more suspense in the novel than in the anime, especially the last fight with bunny girl.

In terms of loyalty to the original story, it was one of the best adaptations of a manga/LN I've ever seen, but yeah the atmosphere felt different in the novel and I think I preferred that overall feeling.

Also, I actually think that the seventh was less obvious in the LN. I think the anime exaggerated some of the actions that gave Nashetania away.

And finally, as someone mentioned above, the fights felt more intense in the novel. Especially when Adlet was running from Goldof, Mora, and Nashetania before he revealed the seventh's plan.
