THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------

Just watched an Italian fandub. Quite cringeworthy, but I'm still grateful. At least I could understand the story.
It would have been a nice spin off series, probably.

It was an interesting project and could have become a good anime. I enjoyed it.

I haven't seen it yet (having a hard time finding it), does it say who is great-great, great grandmother was?? Fujiko? LOL
What if the Hokey Pokey is what it is all about?

A typical average episode for a Lupin series. The only particularity is the sci-fi disguise put on it and it brings nothing. The slightly modified chara-design is, I guess, due to the french implication.

The only notable thing in this aborted co-production is the staff gathered around it.

2/5
Score: 5/10

The air date using its release in the video market (as bonus) makes it classified as a post-2000 title, it seems wrong.

I enjoyed this one more than I thought I would, I read an online transcript of the subtitles in English beforehand so that helped. Also, I sort of enjoyed the sound effects without voices, it was an interesting experience.

I could let go of the changes to the characters due to the multigenerational gap (such as Jigen's Lolipop), and the fact that they still held enough traits from their ancestors for an enjoyable familiarity to be retained, with Fujiko's descendant being seeming the least familiar to me, but still doing something I could expect to see Fujiko do in one of the series.

I enjoyed Zenigata's pipe and his team of little police robots, although I don't feel either would fit with the current Zenigata, with the relatively calmer future Zenigata; given he is a regular police inspector(?) since Lupin VIII isn't a thief, I think it worked. That is not to say Zenigata is completely calm as he does still get worked up after an encounter with Lupin.

I also liked Goemon XVIII's samurai armor and his laser sword, not to mention his futuristic space-themed meditation room, it was also enjoyable to see him looking after the loli whose request Lupin was fulfilling.

I'm not overly fond of the art style; specifically the character designs, but I don't outright dislike them either.

If it were a full series I would likely watch it.

I expected more!
If this OVA is about Lupin VIII, I can understand the physical similarities of the characters, except Fujiko, but not the same characters and personalities, because in 5 generations the psychic change are obligatory thus a bit it would have been acceptable, it was the great disappoint of this OVA.

Well, the plot, was common, nothing special, just an adventure in the year 22XX when all the characters appear but without deepening, also how Pilot it was very bad because connecting characters in the development would have been quite complicated.

The experience of watching it without voices but with sound effects, just subbed was interesting, but I prefer to watch it "complete"!!!! kekeke

I thought they tell which generation they are but except Lupin they didn't.I know we can count it but I thought they say it.O would forbid for my ancestors to give the same name for their ancestors as mine for sure😅Especially when Lupin VIII is not a thief here.Tha most of the scenes were such a mess -no origin story no context just in medias res -but at the end it wasn't bad.If it weren't coproduction with the french it would be better. The character design was the best for Jigen,Goemon and maybe Zenigata but the others just gave me the fact :it was created by french too.All the time. And I don't like the french cartoons they are usually childish and not my cup of tea so it bothered me a lot.But f*k them Lupin created by Monkey Punch is much better than the one created by Leblanc so it's their shame if they didn't want to have a part of these iconic characters 🤷They still are so rude towards anime nowadays too so let them be without it

Gonna be real here, we all already know by now that each installment of Lupin III takes place in it's own timeline (I think), so these could've just been regular Jigen and Lupin, and people nowadays would've just accepted it. The writing wasn't bad, pretty comparable to the less enjoyable episodes of part 2. I can picture the voice acting in my head perfectly, it would've been exactly on par with part 2 and part 3. Comedy was good enough. Art style is very unusual looking, though it'd probably be easy enough to get used to.

Could've been something, and IMHO, probably could've worked as a 6-12 episode OVA. Also, Zenigata only being inconvenienced by having to work around his bloodline's rivalry with the Lupin's (As opposed to actually having a reason to go after him, also run-on sentence, sorry) was pretty funny, and would've worked well as a running gag. Fun enough, but it got canned, so oh well. 6.75/10
