The beginning of the great rivalry between Rikiishi and Joe. Decent Pilot episodes I'd have to say, nothing too impressive yet.

Joe seems to get his ass kicked a lot, doesn't he?

Damn! that Toru guy is strong, to be able to kick Joe's ass with the pigs, what an unbelievable strength! So that's how he started huh! Because of he wanted to take revenge on Toru, and I believed he later learned to love the sport.

I watched these pilot episodes because I'm planning to watch the series real soon, so I wanted to experience its feel and animation. The anime is retro and the story is a bity tiny cheesy, but I will still watch it though.

They may be a little rushed feeling, but these pilots are what moved the main anime from being just an old thing I knew existed to being my number 2 sports anime of all time. These do a perfect job of being hype pieces for the anime.

EDIT: @PavelFalta Your YouTube links are dead. The subs are likely from Saizen, and the torrent for that subbed release is still seeded.

Opinions are opinions, and differing opinions can co-exist. 🙂 But I don't do debate, life's too short to spend time debating people.

Both episodes were a decent introduction for the series.
From what was shown it seems it's a classic underdog tale facing adversity only to maybe eventually rise up to be so much more.

We've seen a lot of these underdog stories by now but it's good to remember this was made back in 1970.

Some decent pilots. Glad I didn't watch these before the main series, since they're kinda spoilery, mostly the Aoyama one. And now I know the first OP and ED also used recycled visuals.

For a pilot, it's spoiling half the show! It's a shame, 'cause I tend to watch what's released first; I should have just watched the first season instead. At least the characters look interesting and the artstyle is fun.
