Were there any moments throughout the Eva series that really messed you up? The End Of Evangelion had me in a funk for days...

I spiraled into an existential crisis for a few days after my first viewing of EoE. I'd say my mind is still convalescent from that experience.

I broke down and balled my eyes out when i saw Asuka in that filthy tub. There is a depth of depression you can reach that is so utterly disturbingly low that you have absolutely no regard for your own well being whatsoever and in that scene im pretty sure asuka was at that point.

also end of eva had me pretty messed up for about 3 days.

I felt pretty pissed off at "Congratulations"
Does that count?
This is man's ultimate fighting machine. The synthetic life form know as Evangelion, Unit 01. Built here in secret, it is mankind’s last hope.

Actually, despite the somewhat undesirable outcome, the show's message really worked for me and lifted me up.... so there's that.

Binge watched the entire show and movie in a single day on my first viewing...sat in silence in front of my computer for an hour and just lay around thinking a lot the next day. Didn't get over it fully till a week later.

10/10 would recommend this for 1st viewers

I couldn't sleep and at morning I ended up staring at the ceiling for at least eight hours.

But when I feel like I'm being hit by a truckload of existentialism and potential diving to self-worthlessness, I watch Eps 24/25 and feel genuinely better.

its been almost a year since i watched it, i still have occasional existential crisises. It fucked me up more than anything ever in my life, but i enjoyed it a lot. I think it's honestly better than most poetry, thus i often reffer to it on essays

suprisingly not much
"There was no reason for me to stay in the real world any longer. In the real world, it didn't matter if I was there or not. When I realized that, I was no longer afraid of losing my body."

Well, Evangelion opened quite a few new doors for me. Beyond my newfound interest in religions origins, I have delved into how one might percieve their own reality. Psychology is now a present interest of mine, which shows how important this anime was for me.

My initial reaction, though, was much less optomistic and positive. I had originally watched Neon Genesis Evangelion during a particularily dark phase in my life, and it's safe to say that it had not immediatly helped my headspace. Seeing people succumb to their own dark perception of reality was inspiring in the worst way possible. I simply discovered that I had a very prominent desire to just escape from my existence. After some careful reflection and a lot of media review later, I again used NGE to analyze my own thoughts (I have a habit of attaching myself to certain pieces of media). This anime was to show how glorified escapism is, despite how it paints you as a coward. Shinji is a wimp, yada yada, speaking for humanity and all that.

The way that Evangelion wrote its characters still sticks with me to this day. It has made me embrace certain realities and see them for what they truly are. I cannot know if seeing beyond the sugarcoat is a blessing or a curse. I think Hideaki Anno showed a very unique view on our reality, yes, but this could only come from someone who has experienced the harshness of it. I fear for my future in encountering grief.

I just sat there reminiscing the whole series when the end credits of 3.0+1.0 rolled. I finished the anime 2-3 years back and then there was a huge gap before I started the rebuild movies. I'm glad I finished all of it, will be a piece of my life always.
