This thread is for the discussion of Cowboy Bebop.
  • Posts of any length are encouraged. However, in the case of very long posts, make sure each point made is concise or concise enough; it should always be easy to follow. In the case of very short posts, make sure what little you've said offers potential for further discussion.
  • Instead of writing from scratch, you can also try responding to a stance taken by a previous person, or elaborate on any interesting comment you've seen in the discussion so far.
  • Please try not to form too many comparisons. This makes it difficult for you to properly explain the significance of each one. Furthermore, you are limiting the scope of your message only to those who are familiar with the titles you are referencing.
  • Although it is natural for a conversation to take on a life of its own, avoid dragging the discussion completely off-topic.
  • Always be sure to exercise common sense, common courtesy, and clarity of argument.

I love bebop. Among my very favorite anime, maybe even my favorite. First saw it on Adult Swim ages ago and thought it was the coolest show I'd ever seen. Years later when I actually got into anime I rewatched it and loved it even more. My favorite part about it is definitely the characters and the way they revealed information about their backstory as it went on.

Cowboy Bebop is a strong example of how something can be so chimeric across all its episodes while still retaining its own identity. We thank this to a cast that's close and can work together while not really getting caught up with each other, as the weight of their own pasts drops in from time to time and everyone just goes on their way. My favorite character would have to be Jet, the almost mother-like worry-wart despite all appearances. The characters anchor everything to whatever adventure they go on. Creative liberty with a focal point. Want to see Spike get high? There's an episode for that. Want to see them take on a case in classic film noir? There's an episode for that. Feel like taking on the day with Ed and still not get a single thing about her ('her'? I'm really never sure)? There's an episode for that too.

If I had to describe the aesthetics, the closest comparison would be the original Star Wars Trilogy. It's grimy, rusted, broken down; you can tell someone's lived there, and the setting from the Bebop to other planets is all the more alive for it. Oh yeah, and the soundtrack is absolutely bitchin'. If you haven't already (and I seriously don't know who wouldn't), watch this excellent work of the...actually I don't know what genre this is. It's probably its own. Yeah. Let's go with that.
