THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
Oh man, I somewhat expected this kind of outcome but this episode still wrecked me. I wasn't too surprised that Vitalis has something to hide about his past but it really sucks that it had to come up during the trial. At least the innkeeper was fairly nice, but in the end Remi is alone in a city that won't allow him to perform and he doesn't even have enough money for one meal. I really wonder how he'll deal with that. I sincerely hope the next couple of episodes bring some hope back into the show because this one was just too depressing :(.
I probably regret this post by now.

Very unfortunate for Vitalis AND Remi, he deserved better than getting sentenced into prison for doing what he did last EP (Which I think was quite justified). It's only going to get tougher for Remi from now on, damn...

Atleast the landlord was pretty nice.

I expected them to rush the case and not really give him time to explain himself, but never saw this coming. Now I'm really curious what his actual origin is. It has to be big enough for him to lie. He'll manage those two months in prison somehow, but the real trial is only starting for Remi. They have to move to another city/village to even get a chance to perform, and Remi never did all by himself. Next episode might end up being a disaster for him.

The twist seems kinda stupid to me. It's highly unlikely that 19th century Italy had a register for all of it's citizens so them trying to check his background doesn't seem something that they would have actually done.

But i guess i can let that slide because it's not a realistic show anyways.

Italy did have a registry starting from when Napoleon conquered it.

But things are really going from bad to worse for Remi already.

But i doubt that it was the kind of registery we have now days. What i mean that i doubt they would have info of all the citizen on one place. Churces kept records in lot of countries but that info (most likely) was only available locally on each town (no central records)

But if i'm wrong then i guess i'm impressed.

Sure, but Vitali probably had to give his name, date and place of birth so they could check the local records. Still seems an awful lot of work in the late 19th century if it's just a two months sentence.

What a bleak episode.

Vitalis' decision to throw away his past, or at least to avert his eyes from it, costed him his freedom, and Remi's company, and what a twist! It's seems like he's Remi's father and this changes everything!

I can't find fault on his past actions anymore, and even the fact that a traveling entertainer was in such a small village to begin with should've made me suspect more, I believe he was already looking for Remi when fate brought them together on that bar which Jerome took him, maybe he has even been searching for years!

It makes him sharing his wisdom with him all the more meaningful too, trying to get back their lost time or something, I can't wait to know the whole truth! Or maybe I'm totally off the mark and reading too much into it and he just called him son because that's how important he became to him, but it would be nice!

Hard times are waiting Remi for sure, but I'm sure he won't give up!

Wow... what a cold world it is... You can tell that Remi has grown since the beginning of the show, he dealt with this situation better than I expected him to. It's gonna be interesting how he fares by himself in these 2 months.

I love how everyone gets development. The landlord is introduced as annoying/mistrustful, vitalis doesnt like him as it seems all he wants is money. Then its revealed he is a good man. But even he needs money. The contradiction of wanting to be decent but also ask people for money is hard. He could easily have kicked remi out and not a single person would have cared as remi is low class but he kept him around anyway. Great episode.
