Wow, the new OP is so good. Jose was already a very strong boxer from a young age, intimidating guy.

It was great seeing Joe enjoy his time outside of the ring.
That former boxer was funny too, naming his dog Jose, lol.
Kim has to retire too.

Interesting episode, great to find out that Joe is the number 5 boxer in the world. Jose really is something though.

New opening is pretty good.

Joe is destroying one boxer after another.

Jose is really a great champ and he was already a monster with 16.

Overall nice episode, visting Rikiishis grave had something and the restaurant visit was fun.

I like the new opening song. But it is so different from the others... it doesn't seem to fit to Joe's story. It could have been a better ending song, I guess.

Love the new opening. The tone is quite different compared to the previous one but it sounds awesome. Interesting to see the history of a boxer who fought Jose and how that experience changed him, this episode served as some nice buildup.

"Hey, Hey, Hey, Hey Blues... Still Rollin' The Blues"

The new OP is very nice, quite jazz-y. reminds me of Cowboy Bebop. i'll miss the previous ending, though.

Well, it was almost a happy episode, that ending not withstanding.

Former champion, yet the guy was pretty pathetic, not gonna lie. So, Jose was a super-talent from the beginning... not even surprised. Kim retires and I'm not really surprised, he's too old for boxing, his body is probably very sensitive to damage, and damage from the likes of Joe is immense. Joe wasn't fazed by the fact that Kim retired, that's some unconcealed character development! Very nice.

The new opening is so jazzy and stylish, I kinda like it honestly.

Filler-ish episode.

Nice to see new OP. Pretty jazzy, imo.

I am fully sure Kim retired not from any injury but from mental trauma. It was a nice episode but it's someone sad to see how all these boxers turn out to have a life after their career.

This isn't even on topic for the episode. But from the start of the Anime, I never imagined I would end up loving it so much. I think it really started to pick up when the Joe and Rikiishi was getting close. Ever since that fight, this Anime has remained a 10/10 in my mind. The vibe that it gives me is such a nostalgic but depressing vibe, Joe, as a character has grown on me so so SO much.

Joe was definitely thinking of Carlos, Rikiishi, and Wolf when the ex-champ was talking about how Jose becoming the champ made him happy

That was a nice cozy episode. I don't know if it was just me who caught some symbolism in this episode. The dog (Jose) chasing after another dog, who's referred to as merely "Stray". Throughout the first season of Ashita no Joe, he was often compared to a stray dog. Now Jose the dog who's usually laid-back/calm like the Champion Jose is chasing after a stray (Joe). I think it symbolizes how despite Jose's calm nature, Joe's inner fire has ignited Jose's fighting spirit once again to defend Jose's World Champion title, something he wants to hold onto forever. I really like the new op and ed with that jazz vibe, which I guess symbolizes that we're moving toward the end of this magnificent saga > 2:59 AM, 22/09/24
