I've seen the reviews here talking about how this is "just like" season one, and I have to disagree. There are big differences that made me give this second season a six instead of the nine I gave the first season.

1) Suzu Hagimura

In season one she's quite the hot-head, and jokes about her size were almost as common as the sex jokes. She actually cared about what people thought of her, and was a pretty well defined character known for her brilliance and child-like complexion.

This video is the perfect example of season one's Suzu: http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x1p3qli_suzu-hagimura-in-a-nutshell_fun

In season two she's a pretty mellow character who doesn't really stand out in any way besides her small size. There aren't very many jokes about her and the ones that do exist are pretty lame, she doesn't really care if you talk about her size, instead she just acts a little depressed. While in season one she was frequently played out to be a genius (e.g. listening to people while punching Tsuda while sleeping and doing ten digit multiplication in her head), if you had only watched season two you'd think she was just an average girl who's abnormally small.

2) The Jokes and Pacing

Season one had a certain class to it and made clever use of the sex jokes.

For example, one of my favorite parts of season one was when Shino was buying gifts to give her friends while on a school trip, she bought Tsuda a porn mag and gave it to him when she got back. When she was going around asking people if they liked their gift, Tsuda became worried that she was going to ask him what he thought of her gift too, so he spent all night reading the porn mag. When he went back to school the next day, Shino called for Tsuda and thinking she was going to ask about the gift he told her he really enjoyed it, but she was actually wanting to talk to him about something unrelated, which led to an awkward situation. You don't see that kind of quality in season two, all you see is a bunch of one-liners and perverted girls.

Season one also wasn't exclusively about sex and it included a healthy mix of normal comedy with the sex comedy to help prevent the dilution of the jokes. It also had a rather episodic nature that made it hard to tell it came from a 4-Koma. The characters all felt reasonable and every episode felt complete.

In season two, there is very little content outside of sex jokes, and the sex jokes are very immature and tasteless compared to season one. Rather than creating interesting situations like season one did (e.g. the porno mag gift, the trip to Aria's mansion, the suggestion box, the deer feeding, the school competition, plus countless others), season two treats you to a barrage of non-stop one-liners but has nothing else to offer. Indeed, it seems that every character (except for Tsuda and Suzu) got a 300% increase in perverted-ness just to facilitate the endless stream of short, boring, and tasteless jokes. The characters have become little more than puppets and catalysts who's sole purpose is to make more sex jokes. Which leads me to...

3) Suzu's Mom

In season one she seemed like a woman who was concerned about her daughters future but was otherwise an ordinary mother. In season two she seems like a slut who's always talking about when she last f*cked and how she f*cked and when she'll f*ck next.

Many other characters also degenerated like this in the transition to season two. This is not OK.

---------

These are just a few of the complaints I have in regards to season two, I could go on but I think I made enough points here and I don't feel like typing more up right now. Really, season one feels like a completely different anime when compared to season two. Admittedly there were a couple of good parts in S2, but all-in-all it lacks the charm that S1 has and fails to deliver the same kind of consistent and enjoyable experience S1 gives you.

When did I ever say there wasn't? Why are you putting words in my mouth.

And yes, the difference is easily noticed, especially the second one.

Really a step down from the first season, sad really. Had been waiting for the sequel for years.

I've never even read your review, so I don't really know why you're upset about this. The reviews I was referring to were the top two reviews listed on the main anime page.

For those of you who watched the first season, although you probably don't need to have in order to enjoy it, theres not much surprise here. All of the returning characters haven't changed much, but that doesn't SYD 2 from being significantly better than the first season.

It was a joke about the title of the thread.

@IntroverTurtle - Now that's funny xD!

@Laraso - I was hoping that I wasn't the only one, everything you pointed out is right on the mark. I loved the first season, the second has been kinda meh.

Can anyone else confirm this? It's working for me, but if other people can't see it I'll upload it to a different website.

I can confirm, its a 403 error. Maybe you have it set to private, or if it was just recently uploaded it may take a bit to work.

I had it set to private because I was under the impression that all it did was prevent it from showing up in "related videos" or whatever, but I've changed it to public.

Is it working now?

She was probably my favorite character in season one, it's a real shame that she became mostly irrelevant as a character in season two.

Really, I don't think words can explain how disappointed I am with season two. It's such a shame, I really liked the first season and was excited to hear that they were working on a second season, but then after all this time waiting it turns out like this.

Perhaps you should write a review. You seem to have reviewed more than they have... not that they were saying very much, anyway.

I've thought about it and I kind of want to, the thing that is stopping me though is I've never written a review before and I don't know how I would write one that covers everything I did in this thread without actually spoiling anything.

...although, now that I think about it, I didn't actually spoil anything here. And this anime isn't really heavy on "plot", so there isn't much to actually spoil. Maybe I'll give it a try.

EDIT: I did it, I converted what I said into a review. If you agreed with what I said here, please mark it as "helpful".

Like brooo, I totally agree! The episodes just went on and on, with their annoying monotonous sex jokesss. This season was trash, I just changed my 7 rating to a 6. If anyone's looking forward to a season 3, I wouldn't be the one. It's too bad that good anime don't have a chance for a season 2 to really wrap things up, while SYD quite literally ruined itself with it's Season 2.

I quite liked the few amazing scenes we had with the side characters though. Really, the main girls(Shina, Aria) were the worst in this season. The times that I genuinely laughed was when the side characters made their cracks. Uomi, Hata, Nene, Mitsumi=GREAT CHARACTERS. I have no clue what they were thinking when they were making this season. If I wanted an upright sex education film, I'd go look for it, but instead, I'm here to watch quality anime -.- not Family Guy trash -.-

Add on: HELL! Kotomi was even amazing! She suits the role to act perverted as the naive young teenage girl lol, loved it. Basically it didn't feel forced. One-liners, with the finger in the air acting like you're educating the public with sex facts, now that was terrible from ARIA & SHINA.
Please send me a message/profile comment since I will most likely not check my forum posts. Thank you.
