I'm sorry, but I just don't see the Shounen in this anime, nor did it ever have any relationships with Shounen Jump. I would have changed the genre's myself, except for the fact that I'm not allowed to... Will it be changed?

So is Kanon, and a lot of other anime, such as ef a tale of melodies... These are CERTAINLY not shounen anime... Air is definitely not shounen... Not all Harem anime is Shounen. I noticed that Shuffle is the epitome of "harem"... Where's shuffle's "shounen" tag...?

There is a lot of cute girls, that's why it's a shounen.
And Kanon is a shounen as well.

There's cute girls in just about every single anime, sooooooooooo, let's mark every single anime on Myanimelist with the tag "shounen".
Wanna help?

~goes to animedatabase where they GET the right tags~

Air is Seinen, so is Kanon, THEY MATCH THE GENRE PERFECTLY! Yet, that genre isn't even registered on that page.

Yeah but there's only girls in Air, apart from Yukito there's no male lead :/
Air is a shonen (or a seinen if you want) because it's an adaptation of an eroge game, which therefore had some pornographics scene.
That's why it was aimed for the male demography, just like Kanon 2006 which was an adaptation of an eroge game as well.

As for the seinen genre it's somewhat the same thing as the shonen genre, it's just aimed to the male adult.

Shojo = for young female only.
Shonen = for young male only.
Seinen = for adult male only.
Josei = for adult female only.

Seinen is very different from Shounen...

Dragonball Z (shounen) compared to Air (seinen); the differences are quite extreme. That apart, many females, like yourself, would enjoy Air as well. Meaning that, Seinen isn't exclusive to just Males.

Read the definition yourself,
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/lexicon.php?id=19
So, tagging Air as "shounen" is misleading. As I've already stated originally, I stand by my word in Air not being a Shounen anime.

Of course since Air is a Slice of life shonen (or seinen) and Dragon Ball Z is an action shonen (or seinen) :/

You should read what you link.
So that's what ANN said :
Relatively uncommon in the west due to the emphasis on the male teen market, "seinen" is a demographic indicator for anime and manga aimed at a young adult male (college-aged) audience. As such, this kind of anime tends to be much more sophisticated than shounen anime. There are many of the same basic themes/subgenres as shounen but they are more psychological, satirical, violent, sexual, etc. In other words they are intended for a more mature audience.
I don't really disagree with you for the fact that it's a seinen it's just that I, myself, don't do much more difference between seinen and shonen as long as both are supposed to be for male people.

It's just supposed to be for male but that doesn't mean guys will like it more than girls :)

Dragonball Z Seinen? Lmao, that has got to be a joke! All Shounen have a similar theme; as well as Seinen having a similar theme to their kind as well. DBZ and Air are just too different to fall into the same category. And just because Shounen and Seinen are both GEARED towards males, doesn't mean they're the same. Shounen's geared towards angsty teenyboppers, while Seinen is geared towards adults.

And well, I see Seinen as being entirely different from Shounen. Very different.

Hey im a guy and i watch shoujo :p Fushugi Yugi, FTW

Air was alright, but i prefer kanon and clannad better. It had more time to devolope the characters, i have to admit though, the ending to this anime was just so depressing, it made even a grown man like me ball in tears.

Isn't an anime adaptation usually determined what demographic it belongs to based on the type of magazine the manga or light novel it's serialized from?
